Here's who voted:

"ESPN.com recently conducted an anonymous poll of university presidents, athletic directors and head football coaches from the ACC, Big East, Big Ten, Big 12, Pac-10, SEC and Notre Dame (63 total schools)."

I don't think this poll can be considered entirely correct though. How many lower-tiered conferences would vote for a playoff (maybe 16 teams?) so that if their team had a dream year but they'd never be considered for a BCS birth, maybe now they can get lucky and win a playoff.

But, of course, only "major" conferences who would never want to change the bowl layout got to vote.
I hope you weren't holding your breath.
The ESPN writer mischaracterized this as an 8-1 vote against. However, they didn't consider the votes for 'depends upon the format'. These are all qualified yes votes. These votes, taken with the yes votes, indicate that the presidents and ADs could very well favor a playoff system - with an acceptable format. The coaches strongly support this position.
Its a completely bogus poll! Istn' it very ludicrous that the only people polled were the very people who reap the vast majority of the benefits of the present system?!?!? Of course they're going to vote against it! Why mess with something that is making their programs and schools very wealthy?

If the BCS isn't a monopoly, then nothing is.
