With Byron Leftwich also having sustained a minor back injury, is there a curse on preseason awards candidates?

Is it just me or do there seem to be more injuries during pre-season than there are during the regular season? If so, is it a function of being in better physical condition by the time the season starts? I have no idea.

What would be a minor dink, quickly shaken off during the season, can be drawn out a few days to ease the August blahs. Note that the majority of "sprain, pull, twitch" type injuries are players with their positions pretty well sewn up.
