For the good of the BG b-ball program, I hope this is not true. Could be real interesting for Dakich this season if it is though.

Two Bowling Green Guards...as Good as Gone
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Updated 7/22/2004 at 7:26:15

Hardcore Sports has learned that Bowling Green sophomore Chris Hobson has left the basketball program and Steven Wright might be gone too.

Hobson told Fox Toledo by phone from his home in Illinois that he didn't see himself being happy with the Falcons in the future. He had a meeting with the BGSU coaching staff on Monday where he says, they told Hobson he was making a mistake by leaving. Hobson didn't think it was a mistake so he was released from his scholarship and then left BG to go home on Wednesday.

Hardcore Sports also contacted Head Coach Dan Dakich by phone, but he wouldn't comment on either Hobson or Wright.

If Wright does in fact leave, that's a very big loss. He started 26 games at point guard for the Falcons last year. The Junior from Dayton also led the team in steals.

Plus, if Wright leaves, he'll become the second point guard in less than a year to leave Bowling Green. Jabbari Mattox quit in the middle of last season.

Too late to get Jamar Butler. :(

This doesn't sound good...at all.
Best news I heard all day. 04-rock :bluethumb: Whats happeing to Jockits team BG fans??? Perhaps the folks at BG should have told Dan to take a hike when he came crawling back for his job. 03-lol
 I wonder if some BG fans feel bad now that they cracked on us Rocket fans when Cedric Stevens and Astin Martin left the program. At least those guys left because first he wasn't getting any playing time and second he had an illness in the family and he wanted to be close to home.
If they are leaving because they feel they deserve more playing time or if they just simply don't want to work hard then good riddance. However, if the players are leaving because of losing respect for the coach then it might be time for Danny to go.

If they have another losing season...BYE BYE Dakich!!
It's funny that the article said Hobson didn't see himself being happy with the Falcons in the future...now if only I was able to talk to some of these football and basketball recruits before they made their decision, I could explain this sort of thing to them and spare them a couple of years of unhappiness. :D

Looks like they need a hotel room! 03-lol
Not that I really want this, but there is no reason BG should not be a hoops powerhouse in the MAC.

1) They have a great location, yet Toledo recruits rings around them from Chicago and Kent recruits rings around them from Detroit.

2) BG has a loyal and loud fan base in Anderson, yet can't translate it into titles.

I think these departures show Dakitch is more like his mentor Bobby Knight than some would like to admit. While Kent some fans will disagree, a better BG program is better for the MAC, thereby better for Kent. It's just not gonna get there under Dakitch.

I think BG has been to the top of the mountain with Dakich and ain't never getting back.
I don't know that anybody similar to the amazing talent he recruited before will want to come play for somebody who only looks at his current job as a convenient fallback position.

BGSU did have the best individual talent in the MAC in my opinion over the last several years up until Dakich went 'Eer. And the best teams except for the notable exception of Kent one season.
owen,

Your sights are too low.
Jeez. I can't imagine why kids don't want to for a demeaning, self centered arrogant coach?

Wright played a ton so you know playing time isn't the issue.

I hope Dakich is around forever as he is Kent's personal whipping boy
This is getting serious....I dig Coach Dakich but if he doesn't produce a contending team this yr, the seat is gonna get uncomfortably warm in a hurry. Ain't the same at Anderson Arena these days.

Who hasn't been Kent's whipping boy in hoops recently???

And it doesn't matter who the Kent FB coach is....they've been our whipping boy for decades! 03-wink

Dakich has been to the NCAA tournament with the Falcons exactly as many times as Stan Joplin has with the Rockets. Zero.
If this conference got the respect it deserves, BG would have been dancing twice in the Dakich era.
Of course, if a couple of players leave the team, it's only because Dakich is a Bobby Knight acolyte. That's BS. Lute Olson has players leave all the time. Every coach has unhappy players and players who buy in to the program.
Much ado about nothing.

So true... 03-banghead

So true...

And if pigs could fly....

Seriously, it's only because programs put up with coaches like Dakich that we don't get respect as a hoops conference. But, as other Flash fans remind me, it's usually 2+ wins for the Flashes every year, so I guess I owe BG an thank you for having him stink ( oops, stick) around.

You can't tell me that Antonio Daniels, Keith Mcleod, Anthony STacy, and maybe, maybe Len Matela wouldn't rank as a few of the top players in the conference in the last several years.
Sure other teams have had stars. But not as frequently as BGSU during Dakich's golden years. (Which are long since past by the way.)

Also, BGSUcks.

How did the media manage to convince these players that they needed to leave because Dakich is a Bobby Knight disciple?
Huskie Dan.......you are trying to make sense out of something someone from Toledo says??????? Don't even make an attemp!!!!!

Marshall put more players in the pros than anyone in the MAC in the same time frame and had much the worse record while doing so.
Once again, a big thanks goes out to Greg White, 04-bow , about whom a recent star player, when asked what kind of coach he was, said "I dunno, we never paid much attention to him." (Said very matter of factly, with no hostility or animosity, I must point out) :D
Dakich killed his career with the WVU fiasco. He handled that so poorly, he left very few schools who will want to deal with him. He should have been smarter--if he wanted to move on, he had to know the window of opportunity was small because his talent pool had dried up after the 2001-02 season.
As bad as things may have appeared in Morgantown, he got scared, when as it turns out what he failed to see was that with BE recruiting possibiliites, he could have cleaned house and had big time talent in a couple of years, run the program the way he wanted, and they would have loved him there--just like John Beilein has done. It was a golden opportunity. He'll never have the recruiting possibilities at BG like he would have had at WVU and now he's mired in a 2 going on 3+ year talent void with not much relief in sight. Now, his future even at BG is shaky, because, rightfully, the BG fans and admins have memories. Had he not flirted with the Neers, he could have weathered this period with ease.
