O.K., I'm tired of all the "close but no cigar" games. Now it's time for a breakout!

Ball St at UConn- If the Huskies win this one, they might start claiming a MAC title. Also, why in world are the Cardinals playing UConn on the road two years in a row???

Liberty at UCF- Jerry Falwell, you better start praying your boys make it back in one piece.

CMU at Boston College- This is my upset special of the year. CMU knows they should have whipped Indiana and they get BC in between the Eagles' games versus Miami and Va Tech.

Southern Illinois at EMU- Gawd, we are leaving it to Eastern to beat another I-AA school? Believe it.

Toledo at Pittsburgh- If the Rockets want to prove they are reloading and not rebuilding, you have got to beat this middlin' Big East squad.

Virginia Tech at Western Michigan- Now this would be the upset of the 21st century. I'll be rooting for the Broncos, but VPI has built a juggernaut.

Well, there's my picks through rose-colored glasses as usual.

I can see BSU and UConn playing a good tight game. If UConn wins the mythical MAC title, they'll have to defend it against the Broncos in Storrs next year.

Unless UCF is really in a letdown after Marshall, the Liberty game should be over by halftime.

Really good point about BC's schedule being sandwiched like that. I think it will help the Chips keep it close for a while, but most likely no win for CMU.

I'm too lazy to scan the net and check, but didn't SIU lay 70+ points on someone yesterday? A couple of those Illinois Div 1-AA schools always seem ranked in their top 25, but I'm not sure if Southern is one of them. I wouldn't be surprised if EMU falls in this one.

I don't think a respectable loss at Pitt would disprove Toledo's reloading (maybe a blowout would). Pitt is a pretty good team.

I'm hoping for the best, but preparing for the worst, when Va Tech comes knocking next Saturday. I'm confident the Broncos will put on a good show in front of the home crowd who have been instructed to wear all black. Murmur on the WMU message board is wondering if the Broncos will wear "all black" unis for the first time in history. We shall see...
This is already a "duh", but UConn claiming a mythical MAC title by beating Ohio and Buffalo is akin to BG claiming a Big 12 North title by beating Kansas and Mizzou. Take our tired, our poor.......

Western IL, IL State and Eastern IL have frequently been ranked in 1AA in the last several years. Western put up 70 in their first game, and I'm pretty sure Southern just did it this weekend.

Hey, WIU beat us, but it just lends more credence to my argument - why play teams that 1) can beat you, and 2) you won't get any recognition for beating? The Huskies should end up playing Maryland and Iowa State in DeKalb and at Alabama and hopefully at a Big Ten school in 2003, and will even more hopefully stay the hell away from any do-no-good-for-you 1AA or South Florida's or any of the like.....
