one conference = one allsports conf, no mishmash. All schools must
play lacrosse...I mean fb

indivisible = exit fee $1 million per team leaving to each remaining
school (would be $15 million for Judas 3 if in effect now), and a
three year notice required

with liberty and justice for all = no specials deals for ANYONE

Specifically the 2 div of 6 team BE idea only div games count can
(will probably have to) schedule other div opponents as OOC. This
lets Notre Lame keep 6-7 OOC games w/o it being a special deal (we
all play just 5 div games)

Include Loyal 5 + ND plus my 6 (insert your own favorites)

Cincy

Loserville (they have to pay an entrance fee, doesn't violate
special deal clause, it is justice for the Metro)

ECU (Haven't seen anyone against them that knows much about them)

Marshall

Memphis or Navy (Navy 3 wins last 3 seasons, but then again i didnt
even know Memphis played DIA cfb until last week)

UCF or USF (dont know that it matters much the one included will
probably turn out the stronger one by virtue of its inclusion, but
dont take both this would leave them both mediocre IMHO)

Isn't this the American Way?

Oh yeah I forgot the American way is the almighty dollar.
In the FWIW column, a poster on the Herd Vine noted that in a radio interview the V-Tech AD said that having a football divisional championship game was not preferred........not sure why but I'm guessing that if the BE loses the "big 3" then the stronger of the schools left will press for an 8 team league unless they figure going "bigger" gives them a better shot at BCS bowls.

I also would think UL and UC, although arguably not in the "driver's seat" during BE negotiations, will not favor adding extra teams that bring little or nothing to the table in hoops. Pitino is still made about C-USA adding ECU in hoops.
I think UCF over USF because the Knights have good baseball. Notre Dame says it perfers to remain in the Big East over going to a catholic league that would be weak in non-revenue sports.

Was this whole post tongue in cheek? It started that way.......

I think his crediblity is shot in the foot when he brings up Navy and then didn't even know Memphis had Div 1 football. Add to that, Louisville just announced a 2 million Dollar surplus for last season.....the comment on loserville and putting Cincy first makes me question his real motives. 03-confused

In regards to UCF vs USF, I can agree with his comments. But we do have better baseball and facilities and starting to build a 12,000 seat convocation/arena for Basketball.

Just my opinion, I could be wrong.
A surplus is a good thing. Maybe you mean deficit.

Anyway, I don't think basketball or baseball will ultimately decide anything. Football is king (and market and potential). There was a good column about this in the Sentinel a few days ago. Cincy and Louisville won't have a say as too who joins some new Big East. Cincy would be lucky to be included considering they have a rogue program.

I think the BE will go to this Federation model and be a 8/9 team all-sports conference and 8/9 team basketball conference (16/18 teams total). The basketball schools have more rights to the Big East name and I don't think the 5 leftover football schools want to start over from scratch. It's bad enough the conference is weakened considerably, now you won't have the brand name. A federation isn't optimal, but it's better than most alternatives.
Louisville announced a $2,000,000 surplus in athletic revenue!!!! Could be more!!
Yep, that's a positive!!! And entry fee's and exit fees would not be an issue.

Just an FYI

Loserville screwed VT when they were both in the Metro Conference. I don't know the details, but U of L has a history of destroying the Conferences they are associated with.
Thanks for the clarafication.....I had forgotten about that.

But once again, L-ville seems to be holding all the cards!!!! 03-wink

(pun intended)
I once got some of the folks at Duke Basketball Report to agree with me that my Miami would be a better fit for the ACC than the imposters in Coral Gables.

Guess I should've saved that thread for re-posting elsewhere.
You definitely should have. Would have been great cookie points for Miami U. 03-wink
If the Big East can somewhat stay into a decent football conference, I think it would be a no-brainer. Get in a conference where conference wins actually matter towards the BCS rankings..
Adding a comment on Louisville.......they did announce a $2mil surplus in their athletics this year (total budget of $31.6mil), but they lost money the two years before that, even with all the $$ they get from hoops.

Also, when you realize how much larger UL's athletic funding is, you can see why they are on the "short" list for BE inclusion. I don't think any MAC programs have budgets over $20mil, do they? What is UCF's?

Jun-30-2001 - Jul-1-2002: $12M
Jun-30-2002 - Jul-1-2003: $13.5M

And the budget for this athletic year (Jun-30-2003 - Jul-1-2004) will be around $15M.
