Wow, I guess it's more official than I thought. Funny that I would get that news bit via an internet BBS via a Miami fan via the Canton Repository via the NFL HOF Luncheon...here I thought UA would come out and make a press announcement of some kind when the time came. Oh well, it's nice to know there's now a time frame on a new on-campus stadium.

I'll be anxious to see what kind of plan they come up with. I think it will have at least 30K seats starting out in keeping with the Div. 1A seating size requirement with room to expand in the future in case we someday decide to bolt for a larger conference :) We have yet to see what Akron can do with a renovated campus, new on-campus practice facilities, a new on-campus stadium, better recruiting and a winning team and I don't think the administration is conceding anything going forward.

Could the Miami fans let me know when additional info on the new stadium is printed in the Canton paper, please? Thank You.
Zipper--You guys are getting a new stadium?!! I don't see the need. I've only been to the Bowl once (last year's opener in which youse guys beat us) but I thought the Bowl was a pretty good stadium and totally adequate for your program. If I was Pres of Zip I wouldn't put $$ into a stadium; I'd but it into academics.

(Thank you for asking.)

OF...Glad you enjoyed your visit to the Rubber Bowl. I would say it has served the city and the university well since 1940 but there comes a time when the maintenance costs approach what the debt service would be on a new facility which would be much nicer...

On the academic side, UA opened a new Arts & Sciences building this fall as well as an expanded Science & Technology library. They also plunked down about $1M for professor salary increases to bring them more in line w/Kent, OU & Miami.

Still a ways to go but we'll get there.

03-wink
What are the numbers--difficult to believe that the maintenance on the Bowl is roughly equal to the debt service + maintenance a new stadium would require....I really think the Bowl is a darn decent facility until you guys become a perennial top 20 team.
