Full Version: Caveat for 6-6 teams?

What if the only other D1-A teams available for the Motor City Bowl (besides other MAC teams) had 6-6 records? Would the NCAA make an exception to their "tie-in only" rule for such teams and let them in the MCB? Especially if the MAC endorsed it?

In terms of bad publicity, attendance, etc. etc., I believe it would be very detrimental to have MAC teams play each other in a bowl :snore: , unless it was the Fiesta! :o
If they were the only other teams available...what other choice do they have to make? I don't think the MCB or any bowl would pit two conference foes against one another. Then again...the BcS is so screwed up, who knows?

Trade teams w/ other bowls. The problem is, Detroit has such a bad rep. But c'mon, Shreveport? Ideally, the MCB will trade the Big 10 slot w/ another bowl so that MAC teams can go bowling in various places. But I wouldn't put it past the BCS teams to try to screw non-BCS teams even in a down year.
You can count on the Big11 and the BCS doing the MAC no favors, unless it benefits them. It would be an accident if it works out better for the MAC.

Personally, an "all-MAC" MCB would turn me off. I'd probably still go, but it would take a lot for me to go downtown to see that game. But like Herd Fan said, I don't see that happening. It seems that the whole concept of bowls was to pit different conferences' representatives against each other.
And I would rather see two MAC teams play than have to take, say, South Florida, especially if five Conference USA schools are already in bowl games.
OK. Here's my idea...

Invite the University of Western Ontario, whose Mustangs are currently 6-2. They have a large student population, a consistently winning program, and are a frequent participant in the Canadian national playoffs (if they make it all the way, the championship game will be on 11/23). The first International bowl game between two teams who know very little aboot (Canadian for "about") each other. Perhaps a long-term contract... MAC #2 against the top Ontario team (basically, the winner of the Yates Cup, the best school in Ontario). After a few years, it's interesting to think if it may be a unique jewel, with plenty of media attention. Heck, some MAC teams do have Canadian players on rosters.

I know, it's a bit of a silly idea, and not to be taken seriously. But, I do kind of like it.

As for the real-life example... it's only personal opinion, of course, but I'd still rather see South Florida in the mix than another conference game.

So, like, would we be punting on third down in that game?
Yeah, I already thought of the differences. But in exchange for getting an extra game and giving the school exposure to a national American audience, I'm sure they'd agree to adhere to NCAA rules/guidelines (despite it being a bit of disadvantage for them adjusting).

Not that this would ever happen, of course. But I have no idea if this event would totally flop, or be an interesting novelty gobbled up by football fans & media alike. Travel or distance wouldn't be much of a problem, nor would a lack of an opponent with a winning record be a problem. :D

Hmmm... Miami vs. Ottawa... Sounds kinda interesting...
The Canadians would get crushed. Seriously. I don't think they give out athletic scholarships in Canada.
That's okay. All Motown's really trying to do is come up with an excuse to have some, uhh, Canadian ballet dancers for the halftime show. :D
Right. He may be trying to get a gig for the WMU synchonized ice skating team. Those zany Canadiens would love them!
Windsor's own Shania Twain would suffice... 03-wink

Nothing wrong with that girl that a few cheesburgers couldn't cure.
