Full Version: Who Will Toledo Be Playing in the MCB?

Did some quick research and made a call to see who UT might be playing. Here is what I found out so far.

(7-5) Oklahoma State - Just beat Oklahoma and have already beaten Nebraska. The #1 team the MCB is looking at. So are others after their win over the Sooners. The Tangerine Bowl may get OSU to play Clemson. Prior to their win against OU, OklaState was a shoe in, now I would guess they are going to the Tangerine Bowl.

(8-4) Boston College - Finshed # 5 in the Big East. A lot depends upon if Notre Dame gets a BCS bid, which they certainly do not deserve, but still may get one anyways. If ND does not get the bid, then they will go to one of the Big East bowl contracted games, likley the Cotton Bowl. If that happens, BC becomes available and would be a good team to play & beat.

(7-6) Iowa State - Started the season 6-1 before free-falling to 7-6, including 37-20 home loss to UConn to close out their season. Most sources state they are going to the Humanitarian Bowl. Is Detroit better than Boise? i don't know. Possible they may end up at Ford Field.

(6-6) Texas A&M - Highly unlikely they will go to Detroit, but they are the #9 team in the Big 12.

(9-2) South Florida - Certainly deserves a bowl bid and is lobbying hard for any takers. The Bulls beat up on both NIU & BG. No team would be more willing to accept this bowl bid then USF. Had good home attendance #s, but how many will fly to Detroit?

(6-6) Ole Miss - The Rebels were in the 1st MCB and beat Marshall 34-31 in 1997. Would they return? Maybe. It would be nice to beat a SEC team, even a #9 SEC team at that, along with playing Peyton Manning's younger brother, Eli.

(7-5) Oregon - The Ducks finished the season #8 in the PAC-10 and had three straight losses to WSU, UW & Oregon St. At this point, they might take any bowl bid out there, but that's a lot of miles to travel for a lower-tier bowl. Possible swap with the Humaintarian Bowl to send a Big 12 team to Detroit.

My guess is ??? as of today's date.
If Notre Dame takes the Cotton Bowl (vs the Big 12's #2 team) - they replace the SEC team (#3, 4, or 5) in that game - not a Big East team (which is not aligned with the Cotton Bowl at all). Therefore the most likely non-BCS bid for Notre Dame (Cotton Bowl), does not effect the Boston College at all - but would rather create an extra SEC team (Mississippi most likely) which the Motor City Bowl could invite.

They can also choose from the Big East's Gator Bowl bid (vs the ACC #2 team) but they've gone there a lot and would probably prefer another location - or the Big East's insight.com Bowl bid (vs PAC 10 #4) - which is a big step down competitively from the opponents in the other 2.

No doubt...NIU pounded Wisky...but a 7-6 Wisky team that lost 6 of its last 8 games should be nowhere near a bowl game.
If they go, pound them!! :D

Yeah, our defense smacked 'em around, but 4 turnovers really cost us. Through the WIU game, we were about -8 on TO margin. After our WIU game, we were something like +14 in TO margin, and that was a BIG difference for our season.
