I can't believe there is absolutely NO Akron players listed on any of the MAC's 1st or 2nd Team. That's flat out ridiculous. Hey, Big Ben(Miami) is a good player, but how many INTs did he throw??? Heck, he's got all those passing yds because they throw every down.

LUKE CLEMENS???? I HOPE they're kidding! That's a joke.

Not even any honorable mentions. Now c'mon here....how about Chase Blackburn(LB)...how about Charlie Frye...how about Miquel Irvin or Bob Hendry.

If you were to build a championship winning team, would you have Luke Clemens at HB or Bob Hendry? I'd take Hendry 100 out of 100 times.

Remember Hendry got all of his yards with POSSIBLY the most inexperienced offensive line in the country!

I'm just shell-shocked.
With 44 two-deep spots, I would think some Zip would be in there somewhere.

But not Frye. That's insane. He's decent, but he needs to get in line behind Harris and maybe Brian Jones.
I know we are new guys and we will get shafted this year, but Schneider not even making the 2nd team? He was the 4th best in the NCAA at passing and completions. How the heck is he not even 2nd team. Also, Watts making 1st team over Gabriel? Look at the stats on that one.

Orlando State's location works against it a little bit when it comes to this media vote. Rust Belt writers are likely still getting to know the Golden Mice.

Roethlisberger, in contrast, is sort of the golden boy. Most expect him to make people forget about Leftwich by the time he's done. He got a lot of hype in his freshman year. Writers knew who he was in August.

Jones probably faced Schneider's problem. He was an unknown quantity entering the season.

Schneider is good. No question. Frye needs to get in line behind *him* too.

But I'm not going to complain about Roethlisberger being No. 2 -- even though MY favorite quarterback on my favorite team is fourth in the nation in scoring.

I agree about Gabriel, but I am not surprised about Schneider.

Look at Brian Jones. He led the country in passing efficiency and is 2nd in QB rating. He has only thrown 5 INT's all season long. He has thrown for over 2900 yards on a team that rushes for 223.42 yards per game. He can run the ball when needed and come up with the big play. Yet he did not make 1st or 2nd team. I really think Jones should have been ahead of Big Ben.
KNIGHTTIME,
What are the numbers for Gabriel?
75 rcpts, 1237 yds, 11 tds, 16.5 ypc.
Thanks hashmander.

The problem is that everyone has a star who doesn't make it or doesn't make it high enough (Josh Davis Honorable Mention?, Nate McPeek a no show for example).

As to Schneider, Byron didn't make all conference a couple years ago even though his stats were incredible and lead the league in several categories. Rightly or wrongly, you have to work up that name recognition and some people get back on because they were good the last two years, even if they were a little down this year.

We "throw on every down" but Clemens gained over 1000 yards? Make one argument or the other, but putting the two together is only likely to aggravate your schizophrenia.

BTW, when you see your AD, thank him for retaining Lee Owens for me, will ya?

"RedHawk Down!" LOFL!
Luke Clemens got 1,000 yds cuz when he touched the ball it was like the apocalypse...the defense was caught off guard! :D

Defenses are a TAD more worried about Big Ben and his cannon...since you do throw 90-95% of the time.

Give him the ball 50% of the time and he wouldn't even have 500 yds. rushing total.
Clemens carried the ball 223 times this season (18.5 carries per game on average), averaging about 4.5 yards per carry. He had 15 more attempts on the season than Hendry.

As a team, Miami ran more times than it threw. The team had 451 rushing attempts this season out of 897 total offensive plays. (Interestingly, our opponents had fewer rushing attempts -- 393 -- than we did.)

AO.........move on, it's done.

42 didn't really see regular game action until game 4 with a serious hamstring injury..........and then he was playing with so much wrap his leg was stiff as a two-by-four. 03-banghead

Everybody on the list probably has their own story also.

If the team doesn't produce it's members shouldn't expect honors.
looks like Alex Haynes will be the second best back returning next year.

I respectfully disagree about Jones. He is a solid QB, but he is not asked to make difficult throws in the Toledo offense. He makes primarily short passes, screens, and outside throws that don't require him to do a whole lot.

Don't get me wrong, I like the kid a lot, and he has been HUGE for you guys this year, but he's no Ben.
I agree, Dodo, Jones' high percentage comes from the offense - those screens are not nearly as impressive when completed as some of Ben's and Lefty's throws.

That said, Jones was a very good QB, is very smart, athletic and a good leader. I just don't think his O asked as much of him physically than the others asked of them.
