It was a whippin'. I was there. Stan wasn't there. Maybe it didn't look that bad on TV?

Are you sure? We drove through terrible rain to get there.

I worked outside all day before the game - no rain in Oxford. 03-wink

It looked bad on TV. I mean bad in a good way, of course. :D

well, i expect he would put the best spin on the game that he could, but to make it sound like Marshall was three broken plays away from beating Miami does nothing more than indicate that either a) he didn't actually watch the game or B) did so after (inadvertantly, of course!) doubling or tripling up his post-surgery pain meds...

Marshall was out of the game in the first quarter because of some big plays. That must be what he meant. I'm sure it wasn't Marshall's game plan to have to try to come from way behind with an injured backup QB and an injured Darius Watts in that kind of wind to win the game. Giving up the early scores, especially the interception for a TD, put the Herd in an impossible situation.

I'm sure the plan was to try and run the ball with Charles. Play good defense. Have no turnovers. Keep good field position.

Marshall did none of those things and were down by three scores right away.

So to summarize this mess of a post, maybe Stan means that if the Herd didn't give up the big plays in the first quarter, they could've stuck with their game plan a little longer and the game could have been different. And if that's what he meant, then I agree. The game didn't have to be over in the first quarter.
To this day, I am still scratching my head over the Herd's last drive of the first half.

Marshall had decent field position, plenty of time on the clock, and could have scored with a few passing plays - but they just ran the clock down. To me, that's when they seemed to give up.

You must've missed the part about Stan Hill not being at the game. 03-wink

This drive was the epitome of the coaching staff's lack of confidence in Graham G.
This had to be the only time in 15 years that Marshall had an opportunity like that and didn't take to the air, no matter what the conditions.

Marshall has no passing game with Graham on the field.Even if Stan was healthy at the time, Miami still would have beaten Marshall.Miami was clearly the better team last year. This year will be a different story

:chair:
I agree. Miami was the better team last year.

Welcome to Huntington, on a beautiful Wednesday night in front of a nationally televised audience. . .

So they won't actually be televising the game, just the crowd?
If Miami is as good as they were last year they won't (in Huntington). 03-lol

To this day, I am still scratching my head over the Miami's last drive of the second half of the 2002 Marshall game. R-berger had 'em by the balls, and Miami tried to run out the clock? I swear Lee Owens coached the 4th quarter of that game! 03-wink

DOH!!!

OKay, that was funny.
I was there, it wasn't raining but there were some crazy winds. That was one of the most lopsided games I've ever seen and the weather had nothing to do with it.

Get used to it. The whoppin's will be a lot more frequent in CUSA.
