Starting with Aug 8th, do any of you local fans plan on attending pratice sessions? If so, please post some information on how the Huskies look. I am interested in:

Who is the back up QB to Haldi getting the most work
2nd Team LBs
D Line depth
Players from Spring, now not with the team

Thanks from those of us who can not make it out to watch in person.
I plan on heading out for some Saturday practices. I'll report what I can -- obviously without being too specific.
I spefically did not ask about injuries. The rest of the list is pretty much open game without letting anybody in on anything top secret. Thanks
Yes, please, nothing specific in the way of plays, coverages, routes, etc.

Guys I hate to be a realist here, but If they are open pratices don't you think that maybe, just maybe, our competition would have advanced scouts maybe making better judgements about our plays, and not scouting message boards...

I'm not trying to make fun, but guys lets not take the message board that seriously!
NIU Gambler,

Have you ever been to a NIU football practice? If they are not scrimmaging, they're lucky if there are more than 5 fans watching. Although I have to say the number of fans attending practices has picked up with the team's success. There are no advanced scouts watching our practices. And I have seen Joe send an enforcer into the stands when a fan had a camera taking pictures of our practice.
I'm a manager for the NIU football team so I'm at all the practices and actually its kinda funny because when someone is up in the stands watching or taking pictures Coach doesnt like that too much. Usually he'll yell up there himself and tell them to get out rather than senidng an enforcer.
I saw him send Falbo up into the stands last year when some young Chinese student was taking pictures. I think Maryland sent the kid because they figured Joe wouldn't expect some young Chinese kid to be a football scout, but you can't fool Joe.

But Joe was cool about it, he let the kid come down on the field to take pictures of the players after practice. And the kid went along with it (not wanting to let on that he was actually a scout for Maryland).

You're foolish if you don't think that people pay attention to information on these boards. They don't care what we think of Cary Groth or our new AD candidates, but if they can find out about surprise players, surprise plays or new strategies, you bet people will pay attention.

Gambler - I'm not just assuming, I know this to be the case in many instances. A couple years ago, the WMU QB was found to have a collapsed lung and it was mentioned on a WMU board the day before the game in DeKalb. That's some prime info. I made a call to make sure the right people heard about it, while also offering the necessary caveat about what you read on the internet. St. Charles' own Jon Drach was summarily drilled all day long and the Huskies won on Homecoming.

I'm not even remotely claiming to have helped win a game, but that kind of info is certainly valuable, especially strategic info from pre-season practices. That is when you get the most systemic changes, and your first opponent has no film on those changes.
And Maryland would be doubly interested in getting practice info since we have a new offensive coordinator.

Is that some kind of joke?

You called one of our coaches to make sure that they knew WMU's QB was out...Wow, Did they give you an honorary Number?

I'm just playing with you dan, i'm sure this board is super important, the only thing that bugs me is how do WMU fans have the inside jump and our coaches have no idea their QB was hurt and it takes a message board fan to give them the heads up.
Gambler,

From week to week, other teams do not know about injuries that occurred during practice. It's not like the NFL where you have to give an injury report. If they were hurt in the last game, then it's probably public knowledge. But if a starter pulls a hammy during practice, unless it's made public, the other team may not know about it until after a game starts or before a game. And one way, not saying it's the only way, this information becomes public, is if it's mentioned on message boards.

Their QB had been smeared in a game and went out. The next two weeks he played and had great numbers. It was during the week prior to our game that he was still feeling discomfort (that they apparently had diagnosed as bruised ribs), so they took him in and found he had a collapsed lung. Well, bruised ribs to collapsed lung is the difference between sore and fighting through it and playing at all. That was the difference.

I can't remember the kid's name, but I do recall Darnell getting desperate a few weeks later when he was supposedly healed and played him at Toledo, and they just took shot after shot at him until he was knocked out of that game.
Wasn't that Munson, the WMU QB?

No, I think it was another guy. The guy after Lester, I think. Munson and Drach were the two after this guy, but this guy was pretty darn good.
Was it Steve Welsh? I remember the previous year, he lit up the scoreboard against NIU in Kalamazoo. I was at that game, and it was not pretty. The next year, in DeKalb, he did not play, and the Huskies steamrolled the Broncos on Homecomming. :bluethumb:
Speaking of information from message boards, how many of you found out about Hammock being out in the week leading up to the South Florida game, by reading a message on the old Teamyates board?

I remember first reading about it on there, when a player's mother posted a cryptic message saying something to the effect that "we'll have to do it without Thomas this week". Nothing was in any newspapers about it all week. And then it was confirmed during the radio broadcast of the South Florida game in Joe's pre game interview.

I found out from my brother in south florida, he told me "I've heard that your running back is out" about 2 days prior to the game i want to say.

Having no idea what he was saying i brushed it off, but turns out he was right. He doesn't patrol any message boards, so maybe just maybe people get their info other ways too?
Gambler, who said message boards were the only way to get information?
