Screw 'em! We don't want their whiny-****** losing team sullying our town anyway! 03-lol
they can go to the tiolet bowl and still lose 03-razz
Cincy in 4 bowls in the last 6 years is bad enough...
I find them to be a sorry ****** excuse for a bowl team.

BG...NIU...SOUTH FLORIDA...all sat home????? I am disgusted. 03-puke
The guy who wrote this is the A.S.I.D for Cincinnati of course his is going to praise the NO Bowl. 05-nono

This is not a bad Bowl just a lousy match up on the field.
Better teams would mean better fan support.
And as we've found out C-USA teams fans don't travel well.
No one here has really caught my point, I don't think, which is that maybe the Motor City Bowl needs to do a little more a$$ kissing when teams are in town.

Detroit can't change the weather, but it can change the climate.
Hey RF -

I picked up what you were laying down, but, point is that the MCB is what it is. We will never have the climate, ammenities and kiss a$$ attitude of other cities (especially the overall atmosphere of a great town like New Orleans!). I think the MCB committee does a great job. Yeah, the assistant SID is going to make glowing remarks to the host and I bet we could find a similar letter from him to the MCB. But there was no need to dog Detroit and the MCB in order to make his point.

Besides, somebody has to stand up for Detroit! :D
Hey, this is actually the first year the MCB will be played in Detroit. In prior years, the game was in Pontiac (actually Auburn Hills), where there is practically nothing to do!!

With the game downtown, the MCB organizers need to point out the "tourist" type things to do:

Ride the downtown transit.
Go to Greektown.
Visit Windsor- suggest you take the Ambassador Bridge one way and the Windsor Tunnel the other.
Check out the RenCen.
See Comerica Park and Joe Louis Arena.
Drive over to Henry Ford Museum.
Hit the Casinos.

Go to motorcitybowl.com for more information. Oops, I forgot; that web site is pitiful; not much content at all.

Lastly, somebody needs to take the Detroit sports writers to task. Most of their columns (especially the editorial ones) have been bashing this bowl since its inception. Why?

1) "It's in the Detroit metro area. Who would want to visit there?" Someone needs to remind the writers they LIVE THERE and their READERS LIVE THERE!

2) "It's a minor bowl." Well, maybe if the writers let their readers know the best of the MAC teams are GOOD TEAMS; and this can become a top-10 bowl financially, attendance, and interest-wise.

3) "The Big 10 doesn't play in it". Hey, go talk to the Big 10. In fact, this game deserves the 4th or 5th best team; NOT the 7th or the 8th!

4) "Our readers don't care about the MAC, and it is not our responsibility to cover it". These newspapers publicize the Big Ten 365 days-a-year with thousands of column-inches of text and photos. Sure the Big Ten deserves more coverage, but the disparity is enormous. How much better is the Big Ten vs. the MAC? 2 times? 3 times? 10 times? Even if the MAC received 10 times less coverage than the Big 10, that would be at least 10 times more coverage than it actually gets.

Will the midwest press ever "lose the attitude"? I'd be thrilled if the Detroit papers just hired ONE PERSON to cover the "MAC Beat" on a daily basis.

O.K. I'm done venting.
The Detroit media have gotten better. I think they recognize the bowl game isn't going away. The News has already written a couple of lengthy features about Eagle and Rocket players.

On friendliness: BThe bowl game can't change Detroit's essential character. But it can make it's own effort to be friendly.

The downtown location is a major improvement. Folks are right; Pontiac bites the big one. Downtown is far more interest.

I would also suggest hitting the Motown museum and the Detroit Institute of Arts, which is one of the finest museums in the country. Both are very close to downtown.
This sounds consistent with what Herd fans have told us about the less than stellar "bowl experience" provided by the MCB........hey, I know it's in Detroit but you'd think that they'd at least go "all out" to make it as nice an event as possible for the fans and players.

As for the NO Bowl, can anyone explain to me why they have it on a Tuesday night that early? Why don't they play the Mobile and NO Bowls on Thursday and Friday nights of that week? Just makes no sense to me.

P.S. If I were the UC A.D., I'd be saying nice things too after my school took 800 fans to a bowl game.
