I can see your point DrTorch. Down South we are taught early on that Grace is the gift of God which can not be earned by fallen man. Monaghan is a very goal oriented guy I guess.

I was just surprised at the bluntness of the statement. Obviously my bias came through, but it was really meant as historical commentary: that's the big issue of why Luther called for reform.

Also, at a Buffett concert in Cincy a couple years ago there was a guy walking around the parking lot of River Downs (where we tailgate) with a sandwich-style sign. On the front it had the WWJD thing and my little party was preparing to be "learned on the evils of strong drink" when he turned around and the back said, "What Would Jimmy Do?" We gave him a Dos Equis and took a bunch of pics.

We use "WWWD" at work. "What Would Wanda Do?" Wanda works in the IT department and can cop an attitude at the drop of a hat.

As a conservative Catholic, I applaud his efforts. Catholic schools have gotten far too liberal and if you are going to be a private school, you should stay close to your faith and not "go with the flow" like many of the Jesuit schools have today condoning many moral, political and economic problems of these times.
Does BYU go against their beliefs? No. In fact, all students, including athletes, must go on their church missions for a time period in their young lives.
I'm sure this person has tried to persuade the powers that be to return to historical teachings, but has had little success. I wish him well at this, and along with, hope that he and others can help out the poor too.
I guess I bleed my conservative stripes, so I'll stick to MAC talk for now on for those who are offended by my anti-liberalism.
