As the MAC BBALL season is coming to an end, I thought we would get everybodys opinnion on the Good and Bad of MAC Coaching.

The Best:

1. Charlie Coles(Miami)- He is not afraid to play the big boys, and his record suffers for that. He gets more out of less talent (except Wally Z) than any other coach in the MAC. You don't want to play him in the tourney.

Runner up- Rob Judson(NIU)- I have not seen NIU personally this year, but remember them from last year. They came to Huntington (first round of the MAC) and nearly beat Marshall. Their defense was very impressive and it seems to be better this year. If he can get better talent in DeKalb the MAC better watch out.

The Worst:

1. Greg White(Marshall)- Greg continues to get what is perceived to be good talent and cannot even make it to the MAC Semi's. Coaches like Dakich, Coles, and take your pick from Kent school him every year. He plays a lousy Non-conference schedule and has problems with that.

Runner Up- Tim O'Shea(Ohio)- O'shea was brought to OU to be their savior.
So far, all OU fans have got is disappointment. He has not been able to control Brandon Hunter's attitude. He did not go out and find the missing ingredient to this year's team. A point guard. And despite having three of the MAC's top fifteen players they are at the bottom. The only reason he is not the worst is because he is 3-0 against Greg White.

Editors note: At the request of Redsteve, Okie, and Axeme lets not turn this thread into one of football.
That sounds about right. I'm not familiar with the NIU guy. I'd suggest Dakich as a potenitaly runner up, but I wouldn't put him ahead of Coles.
Coach Judson at NIU has turned a mole hill of a team into a mountain. He is hands down the best coach in the conference. Everyone better get a glimpse of him now because he won't be in the MAC for very long. I wouldn't be surprised if he left after this season.

Baby steps, OH. First we have the Spring practices. Then the Spring Game. Then the unbearably long Summer months.
Aaarrgghhhh. This is agony. Just talking about that stupid basketball thing makes me realize how far away football is. I may have to go to an arena game just to get a fix.
I agree....

I miss football! :crying:

So many jokes, so little time. :D
An Akron fan missing football is like a Marshall fan missing......any sport but football! :D
It's funny how everybody loves Charlie, except for the Drano Drinkers over on Hawktalk. Half those guys would fire CC tomorrow.

I'm not sure who they think they'd get who is better.

Anyway, I think Jockitch at BUGS does a really nice job.

If Charlie is the best coach, he is the best representative of the Mid-American Conference on the court! You got to love the guy!! The problem when he comes to Muncie is that the fans can find no reason to dislike him. He's like Muncie's favorite guy.

His teams play tough, tough defense. And almost always, regardless of how this team starts, they are ready by the time the MAC Conference Tournment comes around. Ask yourself, do you want to draw Miami in the Tournment? No way!!!

But, I can't forget Buck' at ole Ball U! Lost his All-American, and his sixth man senior this year. Started slow and has turned it around. Maui last year, etc. He belongs near the top. He, like Charlie, represents the MAC real well - again Maui when they micked him for two games. Great spokesman for Ball U and the MAC.

But, number 1, and because he's be around so long and smiles so BIG - Charlie Coles!!!

Charlie is a great coach, who always makes the most out of whatever crappy talent that he's got. The best part about him is sitting down and actually listening to what he has to say. He's hilarious, half the time he doesn't make sense, but it's a riot and a delight.

I also think the new guy at kent is doing pretty damn well too....he's also got one of the ford kids from OU on his staff

Those folks in Jersey gave me plenty of one-liners to test out. :D

Are you ready to defend your title in the Weekly Picks Contest? I think I need to pick some tougher games this year.
I'm ready, although I thought it was tough enough last year. Believe me....it was pure luck!!
I live west of The Big Muddy so I've never seen Coles live. But from hearing his team perform (on the 'net) v. their seeming talent, I'd take him before anyone else in the MAC. More importantly, from his quotes/philosophies in written articles, he's clearly the one guy who I'd want my son or daughter to play for.

Coach O'Shea at OHIO--well, I can't understand why in the last two minutes of close games we fail to deny the ball to and double defend the oppo's best player/the guy eveyone knows the oppo wants to have the ball (Blackshear, Gates). And, those on the OHIO board question his coaching/game strategy a lot. But I think he's an ace recruiter. (Halbert this year.) I'm willing to give him more time since I think he's bringing in pretty good talent and maybe? he'll coach better with time.

All of you in this thread lamenting that it ain't football yet despite the request not to, despite the fact that those laments prove nothing except your incredible stupidity and lack of imagination, please lower head and charge at firm wall at maximum speed. I'm mean you're doing the figurative equivalent already.

thankyewthankyewverymuch.
Well, I sure wish it was football season.
Football is right around the corner!!
