Marshall gave up $450k from LSU plus paid them $100k to play us. $550k hit. To play us. They also will be paying us. I don't think I would be pleased if Toledo gave up a game with LSU for Marshall. They must want us bad. Did 42-0 hurt that bad? I wasn't crazy about the idea of having to play in Huntington for the 5th time in seven games, but I can't help but feel sorry for MU. They've already lost and the game won't be played for another 6 months.

Short answer: Rick Chryst.
Is this a home and home deal, or just a one year shot at the cows during the regular season?

Who knows? Chryst's office schedules the conference games every year, so there aren't any signed deals or anything. I was kind of dissapointed that we have Buffalo coming to the Glass Bowl this year instead of a return trip from UCF.
There aren't home-home games in the MAC. We were scheduled to play UCF this year or 2004 before they joined the MAC. That should have stood so that we could've had a home-home. We may get to play them here in the MACC because their schedule favors them and they're a good team.
I don't think they look at homefield when deciding games except for within the division. I believe every team lists the opponents they most want to play in the cross over games and they try to match up the teams. There is a good chance that we listed Marshall 1 or 2 and they listed us similarly. I'm guessing there was an opening on ESPN September 12 and Chryst wanted to get Toledo on tv along with Marshall. At the same time, MUg has 6 home games, 2 with 1AA opponents, 3 Mac east, and 1 cross-over game. A game against Toledo will probably draw the best.
Frankly, I wouldn't want Toledo to have 2 home games against 1AA teams either, but to give up a game with LSU...and then there's the money. Did their AD originally schedule two tough road games and then wanted two easier opponents at home? There's so much to be considered when putting a schedule together.
Except for a trip to Tennessee, Marshall's schedule looks pretty easy. Although, the trips to Oxford, Orlando, and Western Michigan could prove difficult. Especially if they don't have the QB situation figured out by then.
