Some suffering programs have coaches on the hot seat and ripe for a firing this year.

My prediction -- Hohfer at Buffalo will get canned.

Runner-up choice ---- Knorr of O.U. He may survive but I am not betting money.
Darnell at WMU after another disappointing season.

Knorr has a 5 year contract ending after the 2005 season. I actually think Knorr will survive to year 5. Regardless of our performance this year on the field, I don't know if our president is prepared to make a such a huge firing. He did fire the provost though, so I guess that sets precedence for almost anything to go down.
Gary Darnell is toast if he dosen't finish over .500. Many WMU alums are already calling for his head after last season.
Prediction here is that Darnell will make it thru this season without any problem. That is only because our schedule is brutal. Plus it has been reported that there was a talk with the president, ad and Darnell. But next season if we dont win the west his head will get chopped.

Tall order, if you're correct, Bronco Stampede. Bruce Gradkowski will be a senior next year.

We have a winner.

He's the most at risk. We had a ton of firings last year. We may get through 2004 without any. If we have one, though, Darnell is the guy...

How things change. It seems like just yesterday when Darnell was being consider for several coaching positions and the Broncos were sitting on top of the world.
What about the Buffalo coach?

How many dreadful seasons will he be there for?

He took a bad I-AA team and has turned them into a bad I-A team. That's progress. Buffalo would be nuts to fire him at this point. They are heading in the right direction.
What direction would that be? If all they wanted was wins over Ohio, they didn't have to leave I-AA for that. :)

Hofher wasn't the coach at UB when they made the transition to Divsiion 1-A.

That was Craig Cirbus.

If Hofher does bad at the gate this season he's going to have to go.

I didn't say he coached them in I-AA.

So why did Darnell duck UCONN? If a brutal schedule was gonna be the excuse to save his job, why did Western wuss out of the UCONN game???
I believe this will only be Hofner's 3rd or 4th year. I can't imagine Buffalo believing they should immediately move into the top half of the MAC, so I'd be very surprised if he's fired.

Darnell on the other hand SHOULD have heat on him. What he's let happen to a program both on top and possessing excellent facilities is shameful.

Otherwise, the rest of the conference is in good shape, with the exception of Brian Knorr. If the Cats Knorr again, they'll be looking another direction.
UB has an interim AD and a brand new University President.

I don't see firing a coach with time still on his contract without a firm administrative team well in place. I think Hofher will survive, but I also think UB will turn around (at least a little - 3 wins - please) and the showing of improvemnt will be the main reason the coach stays.

I don't know either. Maybe it was WMU sticking up for Toledo and saying if you are going to drop the Rockets then we are dropping you?

Yeah, I didn't think that was it either.
At the moment I cant remember why we wimped out on UConn. I was looking forward to the game. If I had to make a guess, I will say it was a money issue. And once again I am going to stick up for our coach and say he will make it thru the year with his head intact. And yes it will be tough to win the west next year but I have a feeling that is what will have to be done.
We dropped them simply because we do not like them.

Yea! Nothing bugs a Bronco more than an eastern UCONN.

Well, except maybe a southern Neo-Con. We prefer them as cannon fodder.

Knorr will stick around for one more season to fullfill his contract. Ohio doesn't have a history of firing its football coaches before they complete their first contract. It would scare off any prospective coach if we fired with years remaining.

Kent hung on to Dean Pees for quite a while despite poor performance because of the rebuilding job at Kent. Ohio is in a big rebuilding job too with a transistion to a passing attack and Knorr will have a little more time because of it.
