Kamen--12
Blackshear--37
Theron Smith* just declared so is not included. Was mid-late 2nd round projection last year and probably won't go any higher than that now off an injury. Is projected as #43 in NEXT year's draft should he come back for his last year. (He hasn't signed with an agent yet.

No other MAC players listed in top 50 or honorable mention.

For my part, I have never expected Antonio Gates to be drafted. He could have NBA potential, though his height and jumping ability limit him somewhat. Also not a consistent outside shooter. The strengths which made him a dominant college player don't translate so easily to the NBA. He could still be a role player if invited to a team and brings some intangibles that are a plus. May play somewhere but I think his interests may be in the NFL as a tight end project.
Did Kamen declare?
Smith withdrew last year, so agent or not he's in this year's draft.

Not sure what the hell he's thinking....
Since this is will be his 5th year, I believe Theon Smith is eligible for the draft without having to declare. Unless the rules have changed, so long as he does not hire an agent he can be drafted and still play another year of college ball so long as he doesn't sign a contract. That happened to Larry Bird with the Boston Celtics. I don't know if it's happened since.
The way this story reads Smith is done at Ball State. That's a big loss for the Cardinals and the MAC. I hope his knee is sound and he sticks with an NBA team.

Not that I've heard. BTW everyone, it's Kaman. 03-wink
Think.

Think about it: You're Kaman. You could turn pro and start on the road to unimaginable riches because you're about the only draft eligible true center of any quality in re the NBA, a league which has a massive shortage of true centers. Or, you could play another year at CMU!

Think. Don't dream.

Say good-bye to Kaman.

LATimes pro basketball writer's mock draft has him going at #6. Still think he's coming back to CMU? Sure he is. And LeBron James is going to join him there because he wants to play college ball..at Chip..with Kaman.
No one in this thread has said "Kaman's coming back." All I said was: he hasn't declared, at this point. I personally think he could use another year of fine-tuning, but it's obviously not my opinion that matters. Chris will talk with Smith, his parents, and some scouts and other NBA types before making a decision and that is nothing but the truth.
FYI, the latest public word we have from Kaman:

Quote:Kaman, the Mid-American Conference player of the year, hasn't made a decision on whether to return for his senior season or enter the NBA draft.

"I'll take some time off and decide in one or two weeks," he said. "I'm 50-50 right now. I can't say I will stay, and I can't say I will leave. It's a whole new game at that level, and I want to make sure I'm ready for it because I don't want to sit."

Stay tuned...
It's too early to put much energy into projected picks. Wait until after the Portsmith camp and workouts.. stock goes up and down real fast.

Last year at this time Trevor Huffman was projected in the second round...before he struggled at Portsmith.
What's up with Huffy? Is he playing the ball anywhere? Any NBA prospects?

cmichpersonorpersons: do I have to explain this again. Kaman is gone. Even if I'm wrong I'm right since he'd be stupid to stay and play for no $$ when serious units of dollars await him.

Please feel free to fire back. This board needs the heat.

Oh, by the way--Anyone yet seen evidence of WMD (stupid satellite video of a truck driving near buildings proves nothing)? Anyone convinced of a connection between vile dictator and Al (one mid-level Al once was in the country--that's all ya got?)? If you answer no and no, then why are we there. If either answer is yes, do you really think massive bombing is going to engender gladness to see us, regional admiration for U.S.? Is this really well thought out?

Hey! Wait until we discuss dull economy despite low interest rates and some tax cuts, massive tax cuts sought in face of rising deficits and large war costs and social security instability, and economy spurred largely by mortgage re-fi's cash out $$ that are likely near an end.....Yeah, y'know that $748 tax we want you to have? Just eaten up by your increase in gas prices.
Huffman is playing in Germany and doing pretty well. His NBA prospects appear to be slim, but who knows?

Personally, this board is a respite from domestic and international events. I'd like to keep it that way. (Shows you how bad the news is when discussing Kent football is a welcome diversion.) There are more exciting boards for you to discuss world events-some on this site, like the Sports Bar.

I will leave with one final reference to current world events and threats. Find the New York Times Magazine from March 23 and the article by Paul Berman on the Karl Marx for radical Islam - Sayyid Qutb ( KUH-tahb).
He wrote the work "In the Shadow of the Qur'an" which is now the manifesto for Al Qaeda. It will explain the areas of compromise between his followers and the West. All we have to do is renounce religious freedom and agree the state will enforce Islamic law; in return, they will not be martys. Berman also pursues the risk of partership between Qutb's followers and states willing to offer sanctuary for their own needs, like Iraq.

Oop, my rant broke my own rule. Sorry, won't do it again. Back to the solice of considering the Flashes' fall prospects.
FlashFan, I appreciate that many want to keep this just to sports--despite what I think should be people's outrage at Bush's choices.

Beyond that, this board is dead--no sports issues. And, none appear likely to arise for another 4+ months until we're close to football.
