He ran a red light.

He drove with a suspended license.

Fined $350.

All other charges dismissed.

Two traffic violations.

He ran a red light! How can Pruett allow a guy that ran a red light to be a member of the football team? What a disgrace!

This kids a mess
For god's sake.....we're not talking about what he pled down for:

"In exchange for his plea to the misdemeanors, prosecutors dropped charges of resisting arrest and reckless driving, along with a fifth charge of public intoxication that stemmed from a separate case, Magistrate Patty Verbage Spence said."

The other case was totally dropped.....fifth charge of public intoxication????04-drinky
You tell me playing college football in Marshall doesn't pay? 03-wink

I hope the kid gets help. That being said, if he stays on team.......which one of his team mates will be with him the next time he gets in trouble and god forbid kills somebody on the road (or the other team mate/s)
It worked out pretty well for Pruett, I'd have to say.
When I was walking by the Trophy case the other day, I was thinking the same thing!! 03-razz
No KnightStalker it is not his fifth charge of public intoxication. You need to read it a little bit closer. The public intoxication charge is one of five charges mentioned in the article.

1. Driving with suspended liscense
2. Running a red light
3. Resisting arrest
4. Recless Driving
AND
5. Public intoxication

I'm certain that if he had been charged of public intoxication five times he would be dismissed from the team. Even at Marshall.
Rumour has it that Zac Elcess, who was dismissed from the Miami team, visited in Huntington last weekend.

I wonder if that's true. Seriously.

I was shocked when I read about the troubles of Elcess. How could a kid stray so far off the straight and narrow path with such fine role models as Terry Hoeppner and Jon Wauford?

I don't know if that rumor is true or not. But it makes sense. Bobby Pruett will straighten out that boy.

I don't know about West Virginia, but in Ohio driving under a suspended license is a 1st degree misd, the same as DUI,domestic violence or assault. Our local judge routinely gives out 180 day jail sentences for anyone having a prior. As he states, "you should be severly punished for disobeying this law. Everyone else in the state has to have a license to drive, if your's is taken away, it's because you have already ignored some other law. I'm not going to allow them to ignore the previous penalty at their leisure without consequence." The red light violation is not a big deal, but the DUS shows an indifference to authority.
As a Marshall alum and supporter of the athletic program I expect better from the person who is going to lead our football team this coming year. Regardless of what rulings have come down in the court system, the athletic leaders at Marshall have PUBLICLY gone easy on Stan and others who have went afoul of representing their university in a professional and respectible manner. IMO, this sends the wrong perception to those outside the athletic department and helps to foster an image of Marshall University athletics that is unflattering. I would prefer a more hard-nosed approach, including missing playing time for a first offense and loss of a scholarship for a second offense and a more consistent public response that the university does not condone these actions and will not tolerate repeat occurrances of bad behavior.
To refuse to publicly denounce these actions, to say that "it will be handled internally" and then continue to see a pattern of misbehavior that publicly goes unchallenged is not acceptable...regardless of what court rulings are handed down.
I wish nothing but the best for any student-athlete who represents Marshall University. However, by accepting a scholarship these individuals also accept an increased responsibility as they are representatives of Marshall. I expect better of those representing Marshall University. When I hear that a representative of Marshall has plead guilty in a court of law to any violation, I do not feel validated that he did not receive a harsher punishment from athletic officials, rather I feel disappointment that an individual whom I have helped provide an opportunity is not taking his responsibilities seriously.
I hope Stan stays on the right track and out of any further trouble and goes on to have a wonderful career on and off the field while at Marshall and beyond. But I also hope that we at Marshall demand more from our student-athletes.

Excellent Post fatmanjim!
He's getting off pretty easy, IMO, especially when you consider that he is kind of getting "rewarded" for evading arrest and therefore another likely DUI charge. You'd think a multi-game suspension would be warranted.

For running a redlight? Seems a little harsh.

Get real.

No, not for running a red light.......for driving with a suspended license, evading arrest (while probably intoxicated), & for yet another public drunkenness charges. As the Coach I'm going look at how responsibly this guy conducts himself, not what his plea-bargaining gets him.

Do you have to get thrown in the "slammer" in order to justify a Coach taking strong disciplinary action against a student-athlete that is conducting themself in an inappropriate manner and embarrassing the University in the process? I don't think so........

When did all of this happen?

He is guilty of running a red light and driving with a suspended license.

When Garrett Morrison pleads down to jaywalking, will the woman he beat up (ala Mad Max) suddenly feel better?

I'm happy to announce that Stan Hill will be our starting quarterback for Marshall football in 2003. . .
