After the first day of the NCAA Central Regional was postponed due to rain, the Kent State University women?s golf team shot 36 holes Firday (May 9) at the Firethorn Golf Course in Lincoln, Neb. The Golden Flashes fired rounds of 298-297=595, finishing second behind the University of California (292-292=584).
Sophomore Gabby Wedding (Wilmington, Ohio/Wilmington) leads the Golden Flashes, tying for 12th with rounds of 76-72=148. Three Golden Flashes are one stroke away from Wedding, all tying for 17th. Senior Veronique Drouin (St. Agnes, Quebec/Davie {Fla.} Academy), junior Martina Gillen (Dublin, Ireland/Maryfield College) and freshman Becky Wood (Derbyshire, England/Glossopdale C.C.) all shot a 149 aggregate for the first two rounds. Freshman Katie Williams (Cambridge, Ontario/Galt Collegiate) is tied for 90th, shooting rounds of 84-80=164.
The final day of the 2003 NCAA Central Regional Championships starts Saturday (May 10) at 8 a.m. CST with the top eight teams advancing to the NCAA Championships on the campus of Purdue University.
