AMELIA ISLAND, Fla. -Atlantic Coast Conference presidents and chancellors voted Tuesday to expand to 12 teams, a move expected to bring the University of Miami to Tobacco Road - and havoc to athletic conferences all over the country.
As of late Tuesday night the ACC had not extended an invitation to Miami or any school, but two Florida State trustees confirmed the 7-2 vote of ACC presidents and chancellors to expand. Duke and UNC-Chapel Hill dissented.
Quote:The schools expected to receive them are Miami, Syracuse and Boston College - though there is debate on that issue. Virginia has requested the ACC add Virginia Tech.
Quote:If it loses Miami and two other members, the Big East's only hope for survival in football would be to raid another conference. For geographical and football reasons, the most logical targets would be Conference USA and the Mid-American Conference. Louisville and Cincinnati would be the most likely C-USA teams to fit into the Big East, while Marshall would be a logical MAC target.
