What a day for Cavs fans.....

This is HUGE for the Cavs.....talk about selling tickets and merchandise....BIG BOOST. 04-cheers
I don't think it was simply a matter of statistics...But, it's good for the game and the Cavs.
OK I've accepted the fact that the Magic men choked away the Pisstons series. Now those bastards get the #2 pick ... WTF? God doesn't love us. We have their gimp on our injured list and Big Ben is beasting on the boards for them. I guess this is our punishment for allowing Shaq to leave town. The curse of Shaq is real folks*. I guess I can get some satisfaction in knowing that the Grizzlies are much worse. In 2003 they will be solely responsible for making the Magic (Gooden and Giricek) and the Pistons ('Melo) better. Hey at least we have a .500 or better streak that dates back to around '93.

* It doesn't stop at NBA basketball either. It extends to UCF (all those close heartbreaking losses e.g., UGA), high school football (Edgewater losing in the closing seconds of the '02 6A championship game on a freak play) and basketball (Edgewater losing in the closing seconds of the '03 6A championship game). At least the Curse of Bambino only affects the Sox.

Now, I'm wondering if the Cavs dare pull another one on us. Like trading away our All-Stars, I actually wouldn't be surprised to see them take some foreign dude from overseas!

Aw, who am I kiddin? If they don't take LeBron I'll cry myself to sleep :crying: :D
The Pistons get the #2 pick. Maybe next year we will be able to beat New Jersey!

I hear ya!

Takes some of the sting out of being swept (well... it certainly looks it will be that way) by New Jersey. We have a promising squad, a #2 pick, and some salary cap room when the free-agency summer begins.

BTW, we got our #2 pick from Memphis from that Otis Thorpe giveaway a few years ago. Looks like we kinda made out in the deal, eh? :D
And was Jerry West bummed? Down to the last 2 and instead of #1 the Grizzlies get #13. Tough break for them. 03-lol
Oh, the Cavs will take LeBron, that's not even a question. But LeBron will essentially be acting as an 18year old President, GM, coach and star player - his $90 mil contract from Nike means he doesn't have to take any crap from the Cavs and they better listen to him for EVERYTHING!
I don't think so.
I think reality will set in next year for LBJ. George Gund is not a typical owner, for good or bad as that may be. He certainly is not going to be leveraged by LeBron James. What leverage does LBJ really have? What does he do when Gund says, "Thanks for the input," and does what he was going to do anyway. I think the pressure is all on James to come in, fit in, make the team better, and win some games, and get this team into the playoffs. He may develop leverage in a few years, but it will have to be based on more than ESPN hype. He has to live up to the ridiculous hype. If he doesn't, then he is just another NBA star playing on a mediocre team. Yawn.
I'm afraid one of the things that James may learn is that being seen as too demanding will not only hurt his appeal to advertisers etc. but that the $90 mil. will be vapor if he doesn't move quickly to the top of the NBA pecking order. Does anyone think that after 4-5 months in the league, when the novelty wears off and the hype is gone and he is seen as just another very good player in the NBA, that Nike is going to be scratching their heads in a very soft shoe market wondering how to minimize the deal? They got what the wanted: the Deal. That alone was worth a ton of publicity. Then they will go to work on him--they have him where they want him now. If he doesn't produce the revenue they need, things will change.
With $90 mil already in the bank, he doesn't need to listen to what the Cavs say to make sure he gets his paltry NBA paycheck. And in 3 years when his first contract is up, he can bolt for any team he wants because he already has more cash than god, so he doesn't need to stay in Cleveland to make the max contract. The Cavs need to kiss LeBron's butt, big time.
He's a far cry from having that $90 mil "in the bank." That's long term. They did not just hand him a check for $90 mil. That's an 8-10 year deal. His "paltry" NBA contract should be worth a lot more in that same time frame.
And what will be his value in 3 years if he's a pain in the ******, selfish, me-first player who has to have management kiss his butt? Instead of becoming the "next MJ," he becomes the next Derrick Coleman.
I think its crucial for him to position himself carefully in the next 2-3 years, while Kobe and McGrady are schooling him, to BE a franchise player, not a tempermental run-of-the-mill NBA talented doofus, like so many are.
I agree with Axeme.

And the Cavs should trade Darius Miles because he will hurt LBJ's development. I hope the Magic trade for him because he doesn't have much value and we could use an athletic, shotblocking wing like him coming off the bench.
First and foremost the Cavs should have never traded ANDRE MILLER in the 1st place....what the hell were they thinking??? 03-confused
The Cavs have a lot of young talent. Let's see if they can get it to fit together. Otherwise, they'll be the Clippers east. Getting a guy like Paul Silas to caoch would be a great place to start. New Orleans was crazy to fire him

Great break for the Pistons. Getting a chance to land Darko did a lot to ease the sting of the whuppin NJ laid on em . 'Melo is going to be a very good pro, but Milicic is going to be a superstar.
Yeah but what does Detroit need most????

A SCORER.

Plain and simple.

Why wouldn't Detroit take Carmello Anthony?? 03-confused
Milicic is a freak!! He's 17 years old and he's been playing pro ball in Europe. (faced tougher competition than Melo at an earlier age) He can put the ball on the floor, spot the three and finish inside. Scouts who have seen him play say he's the first European player they've seen who likes to play a physical brand of basketball. He likes contact. He's supposed to have grown to be about 7-2 now and his wingspan equals Yao Ming's

I like Melo a lot, but with Tayshaun Prince emerging in the post season the Pistons seem to have a capable small forward already. They need a big man who can score. They need DARKO!

From the looks of Joe DUmars interview on ESPN last night, I think they're going with Darko. They worked him out yesterday and were stunned by the kids ability.

The best thing about him is that he's European, but not at all French!!
