Well, in yesterday's Dallas paper an article said that TCU, Houston, USM, and Tulane are exploring a new conference with SMU and Rice among others. This is being done with the speculation that UL and maybe UC will be bolting for the "new" Big East. If so, this means the end of Conference USA as we know it today.

In the Raleigh Observer, a new article there states that the remaining (after the exit of 'Cuse, BC and Coral Gables University) 5 BE members will ask Memphis, Cincy, UC, ECU, Tulane Army to join up for form the "new" Big East.

All just idle speculation I guess, but it's fun to watch all the various news media pundits predict the outcome.
The Texas Mid-Major reunification idea (TCU,Houston with Rice,SMU) would make a nice MAC-like conference down south.

They've just built some new highways out to ECU country in North Carolina. ECU has a gigantic stadium. They just have sideline seating and its 43,000. With endzone seating, its the type of stadium design that could be 100,000.

I have a hunch that Tulane is dropping down so they won't be in the new conference, for football at least.

.
Yes a new 'SWC' makes sense. This time include teams from more than 1 state! Tulsa has had some interesting years, and the Okla/Texas rivalry could be good for this program.

Throw in La Tech, UNT and Ark St, and you've got a conference: 5 states still w/ good proximity and some good rivalries.

These guys seem to skip L'ville, unless that's a given to make 12 teams. Anyway I still think they're smoking dope, b/c Navy makes far more sense than Memphis for the Big East. Frankly, Ohio, Miami (OH) make far more sense than Memphis.
I think there alot of schools talking with each other exploring all possibilities to ensure some kind of back up plan or just plain survival.

It all comes down to what the BIG EAST does.
Torch, that's my typo....should've said UC and UL instead of mentioning UC twice. (Cincy and UC). Sorry.
