He's a graduate of the fine institution that hired Greg White today.

Talk about your ultimate coincidences, Stick, this guy is destined to be the next Marshall Hoops Coach.

Just think of how well he and Bobby Pruett will get along. They have so much in common.. Man, I can only imagine... (I hope you see the heavy dose of sarcasm I'm using with all of this)..

White and Harrick are friends. White worked for Harrick at UCLA. Harrick Jr. worked for White at Marshall.

Think of how much better the MAC officiating is going to be...already.
Bummer, the rest of the conference so enjoyed annually beating White's talented underachievers. :(
Today is truly a Great Day!!! We have looked for this day for a long time....White is leaving whoooo hooooo! :D :D :D :D

Congrats, Herd fans...I hope that this is your happiest sports memory of this year, or of any future year for that matter. :D
Don't count on it, afterall, we play Toledo in September. Now, that will be a good moment for Herd fans.
I've always said you need to give a new basketball coach 5 years before you can him unless he just totally destroys the program from the start (ala Dwight Freeman). The first year is often rocky as your junior and senior leaders learn a new coach's system. Then, that coach needs to opportunity to recruit players who fit that system. Just 2 examples. Neither Dean Smith nor Coach K had much success their first few years.

That being said, I was surprised when Greg wasn't fired after the 2001 season. That was his 6th year and Marshall did it's traditional "one and done at the Gund" even with Tamar Slay and J.R. VanHoose as seniors. Way, way too many players had career highs against Marshall. On only a few occasions did Marshall play good defense and Greg routinely got out-coached during games. I had not been on the "fire Greg White" bandwagon prior to that season but I thought that then was the time for a change.

Regardless, the speculation is now rampant as to his successor. My guess is Mack McCarthy. Mack had a very successful career at UTC and a successful, if a bit less than stellar stint at VCU. Furthermore, Mack is a little bit older and I think the Billy Donavan experience soured Marshall on hiring the young guns who are just hoping to move up.

Somebody mentioned D'antoni, but MU really afford him???

I say bring back Huck!!!!! Great teams, great attendance, post-season berths. What could be better???
I am shocked! Why would a coach go from his Alma Mater to coach at a City College? Someone from Herdland please give us the inside scoop.
It does make one suspicious as to what might be brewing down there, yes?

If they hire one of the Harricks, I'm sure the NCAA would appreciate it. They could set up a branch office in Huntington will all the business Marshall's football and hoops programs would surely send their infractions committee...
Greg had to see the writing on the wall. He knows he needed to produce two years ago and that he was barely hanging on at Marshall. Frankly, this coming year's team was not likely going to produce the type of season Greg would have needed to stay around, so this opportunity came at the right time for him.
He is a great guy, good recruiter, gets his kids to graduate...he just can not coach at the division I level.

This is truly a case of a win-win situation for both Greg and Marshall.

you mean the guy that left in shame due to multiple NCAA infractions? Yea, that sounds like a good plan. 05-nono

Well, first, I don't think they'll be hurting for money. Greg's wife is a doctor. More importanly, Greg has always said that his top priority in his life was his family. Coaching at the Division I level is a 16-18 hour a day, 7 day a week, job. Living an hour away from work didn't help matters any. This gives him a chance to continue coaching while living 10 minutes from work and without the pressure that comes at the Division I level.
