I wonder what's their secret.
does anyone else see big athletic fundraising efforts by a school and think, "that's great, but how's the fundraising for the actual school?"

i wonder if athletic giving really is a gateway that leads people to giving back to the school proper. it's pretty clear that the best way for most schools to get in the paper is through sports, but do donations that build up athletic programs lead to donations that build up the school?

Historically speaking, that's exactly what I've been told - that the higher profile does indeed lead to more general campus gifts and higher enrollment numbers.
I read where VA Tech Hokie Club raised $13M last year and is on track to beat that this year. Not bad!
