Here's a clue for you CMU fans
"Young's jersey to be retired
By Corey Prince The Daily Universe
(U-WIRE) PROVO, Utah -- Football great Steve Young will have his number retired Aug. 28 at halftime of the BYU season opener against Georgia Tech. "
and then
"While Young's jersey will be retired, his number will not, leaving the opportunity for current BYU quarterback Matt Berry and future players to wear the famous No. 8."
Ah yes, a new crop of journalists to replace the old...
Go ahead and apply for a job at your local Daily Bugle if these stories keep driving you crazy.
Long hours, loads of night meetings, bosses that cheat you on overtime (and the Bush administration poised to take away what little you do get), all in hopes of one day earning $35,000 a year if you are lucky... go for it. My first reporting job, at a 35,000-circulation daily in northern Ohio, paid me $350 / week.
What's this got to do with journalists? Sounds as if it was BYU's ploy to retire the jersey but not the number.

Don't ever let a little thing like literacy stand in the way of
your dreams!

Nothing, I just figured you guys would need help in understanding the contradiction.
I was insulting you guys.
I was implying that you're dense.
I was promoting the notioin that BG is far superior to that extra-large high-school in Mt. Pleasant.

And thus springs the begining of another rilvary. It is good to see it's not just Toledo v. Marshall anymore.

Nothing new there. Torch's intellect
versus the rest of us is almost as long-standing a MAC board topic as fat punters.
You can take the boy out of Shawnee, but you can't take the unwarranted Shawnee superiority out of the boy.
I think his point is that the first sentence of the article says that his number will be retired, while later in the article it says that the jersey will in fact be retired but the number will continue to be used.
A little lazy, but isn't this why news outlets are supposed to have editors, to catch a mistake like this that the initial writer might overlook?
Doc, if you're in a huff over this, I'd hate to think what your homelife is like the next time a glass goes unwashed.....

Oh, I get it, you mean, like, "How does a fat punter find a BG coed's snatch?" Answer: "You flip through the folds until you smell sh!t, and then go back one." :D

Ah, nothing like a little lunchtime reading...

Besides, if I didn't assume the arrogant heel role on this board, we'd be stuck reading about McGuffy's Readers, how Athens is the new Research Triangle and why the custodial arts merit such high pay in Huntington.

As a born and resident Putnam Countian, I don't know how anyone from Allen County could feel superior. :D
You're about to have a real problem on your hands, here, son, particularly if you tell me you went south to Delphos Jefferson for high school.

You couldn't have paid me enough to go that far south. Hell, I stayed away from Ottoville and Fort Jennings because it was to close to Delphos.
Good. I knew there was a reason why we were getting along.
But . . .
Allen County = Kewpee. Putnam County = Harlan's Barbeque. You make the call.
