Interstate-Intercollegiate conference? Maybe once again the MAC was years ahead of its time by raiding other conferences.
A look at NIU's football history suggests they regularly played CMU and EMU in the Interstate Intercollegiat conference. Then those conference games started to thin right about the time that some of those teams joined the MAC!
Actually since CMU was Div II for a while, I'm guessing that the new other forces came into play. But it is an interesting bit of history to have picked up 3 former IIC members.
And heck, maybe NIU can actually beat former conference rival, WIU one of these years.
Toledo and Bowling Green were both a part of the NorthWest Ohio Conference, also known as the NWO.

Damn, that was decades before Hall and Nash invaded WCW!
I think we also raided the old Buckeye Conference! Damnation! We are greedy bastards in the MAC!
Don't forget that we raided D I-AA for the following too:
Marshall (1997)
Buffalo (1999)
Also, Akron moved up from I-AA in 1987 and competed as an independent until they joined the MAC in 1992. UCF moved up from I-AA in 1996 and competed as an independent until they joined the MAC in 2002.

Maybe you should worry about beating NIU rather than who we beat or don't beat.

I wouldn't exactly call the events regasrding Marshall a raid. We wanted to move up and got stuck with the least common denominator.
