Gophers: Redshirt running back leaves team
Chip Scoggins, Star Tribune
August 16, 2004 UFOT0816

Gophers redshirt freshman running back Maurice Alexander left the team Sunday and is expected to enroll at Eastern Michigan.

Alexander, who missed the 2003 season after failing to qualify academically, was the only healthy Gophers player who did not pass the annual running test at the start of fall camp.

Gophers coach Glen Mason, who did not identify Alexander as the player who failed the test on media day this past week, declined comment on Alexander's decision to transfer.

A highly touted prospect from Detroit, Alexander entered camp fourth on the depth chart at running back and was not expected to be a major contributor this season.
