Did anyone else really enjoy the play where we sacked St. Pierre and returned the fumble for a TD? 04-rock
I didn't see it, but I really enjoy hearing about it!!

I didn't see that part, either...but I sure enjoyed the parts of that game that I did see. It appears that the worst suffering, as a Lions fan, is over.
I know the Lions have Mariucci and all....and they beat my beloved Steelers...............but I gotta say this......Lions fans.....don't get your hopes up just yet!!!! :D

I think the Lions may win 5-7 games this year....which will be a huge improvement.....but don't base it on beating my Steelers in the pre-season! 03-wink

Oh...and it stinks that now I have to sort of root for Brian St. Pierre! 03-banghead
5-7 wins this year will get our hopes up high!

5-7 wins would be a HUGE improvement! 8 or 9 wouldn't surprise me too much, either. They really weren't as bad as their record would indicate last season. There were a lot of very close games and a few OT losses. Unless the injury bug strikes as hard as it has the last two season, those close games could easily to go to the Lions this season. I'm pretty optimistic that a major improvement is in the works in Detroit, starting with this year.

Agree! I would not be disappointed to see that much improvement this season. 04-rock

I missed yesterday's game. How ugly was it?
I stopped watching when it was 9-0 in the 3rd quarter. Cincy was going right through Detroit in the first half, but when they got close to the end zone they couldn't punch it in and had to kick field goals.

Harrington didn't play really well and there were some dropped passes by receivers. Charles Rogers got his first couple of receptions in the game and played pretty well. James Stewart had some nice runs.

Defensively, they couldn't stop Cincy's running game.

Not good news. I don't expect miracles, but I did expect a defensive domination of the Bungles. I hope this is either because Marv Lewis has them much improved, or the Lions had an off day, and not because we're heading for another very bad season.
I don't intend to worry too much about exhibition games, and this was the first road game in any case. I didn't let the first game (win) pump my expectations to unrealistic levels, and I won't let the second game drag me down.

In general:

1) Harrington looks to be trying to force things right now. He's probably thinking a little too much about his completion % after last season. He'll be OK once he calms down, IMO, which seemed evident in the two-minute drill in the first game (ended in a TD pass).

2) McMahon is looking more sharp and polished than last season, and depth at QB is never a bad thing.

3) Receivers need to catch the darn ball better than last season. I'll forgive Charles Rogers for a couple of rookie mistakes in his first NFL contest (drop, cut off one route a little soon).

4) OL looks OK and should continue to gel.

5) Secondary is playing better so far, which is great news.

6) We may have found a partial solution to the problem of injuries at DT:

<a href='http://www.usatoday.com/sports/football/nfl/lions/2003-08-17-wilkinson_x.htm' target='_blank'>Isn't this guy a former Rocket?</a>

7) Special teams look , well, special so far.
Never mind on my link in the post above. I just read that Wilkinson was a Buckeye. 03-banghead

You probably had him confused with Dan Williams, who did play for Toledo.
