I dont know of all the traditions in the MAC for example....

Miami has Tomahawk Victories over top programs and they are put on a wall for all the players to see.

I also know at one time that the Falcons and Rockets played for the Peace Pipe.

What other traditions exist either between MAC teams, and or your biggest rival.

Miami and UC play for the Victory Bell.

Anything else may be included... such as homecoming events, bonfires, etc.

These should be related to athletics!!
Western and Miami played for the Peace Pipe. I don't know if that's what you're referencing, R4E. However, Western won the last game played before two years ago in 1992, and they lost the Peace Pipe. Our theory was that someone from OU stole it and was currently using it for their "wacky tobaccy."
Marshall and OU play for the "Battle of the Bell"

We have the "thunderclap." Every time Marshall scores, extend your arms and raise your hands at about a 45 degree angle between horizontal and vertical and clap for every point.

Ask most Marshall fans and they'll probably say the biggest rival is Miami (OH). Personally, I think it's Toledump. I don't count USPAM as a rival because we don't play them.
I understand that, starting next year, Miami and Marshall are going to play for "the Golden Bug."

Mad Props to whomever came up with that idea! 03-razz
Back in the 60's, I believe students used to march through campus after Huskie victories to ring a huge victory bell. However, they stopped doing it long before I got to school. Last time I looked, the thing is still sitting in the middle of campus.
BG has a tradition of taking Toledo to the woodshed when they come to Doyt Perry.

Heck, we even do it in Glass Bowl.
The peace pipe... I have seen in pictures was one item that BG and Toledo did play for... as for the broncos and the redhawks I did not know that.
Look... Toledo aint go'in no wheres near a shed... with anyone from BG... you bird brains can smoke on this peace pipe!!!

That's 'cause you're kind of a young'n! 03-wink

Actually, that's been one of the thing that's made a lot of the "old time" MAC fans mad about the "new" MAC -- we lost a lot of our traditional rivalries. It hacks us off to not play BUGS, the Rockettes, and Worstern every year. To be honest, I could give a rat's pittutie if we play most of the "new"schools in the MAC.

Traditionally, we played Toledo, OU, Kent, Western, BG, and UC every year. We played Marshall until they got themselves kicked out of the conference. Some of the more recent alums enjoy the Ball State rivalry, but that's kind of lost on me. I wasn't around when Ball State was any good in football.
I must admit that I for one have always hated the thunderclap. I think it came in to being sometime around when the stadium opened. However, it does seem to hack off some other fans, so i guess it has some merit.

At Toledo we throw Jack Daniels bottles at Redforeskinhawks. Sometimes their relatives even cheer us on. It's a beautiful thing, really.
Toledo has this strange tradition where they dress their prepubescent boys in wrestling singlets and drink pumpkin flavored beer....not sure what that's all about.... 03-confused
You know, I am going to open myself and the Rockets up here... but, I have been to a lot of different stadiums. to watch football... my favorite has always been the WMU v Central game... wow... win or lose those people are falcon NUTS!!! Michigan St. is a lot of fun as well... (of course I am talking student sections)... At Toledo, it seems have got to be the most quiet student section crowd I have ever had the opportunities of sitting with... when I was a student, i did my best to lead the section... me and my drunken roomates... with chants and attempts to do the wave... but, it has always perplexed me, cause the student section is supposed to be the rowdiest... with passing blow up things around and doing crazy stunts... What have you guys seen in terms fo crazy students?

Despite your best attempts, that "tradition" hasn't quite caught on. After a year of intensive therapy, most of the Lot 10 folks have stopped having the nightmares.
Miami's big games were awesome when we had Randy come in my freshmen year. We made fun of the Marshall cheerleaders shoulder pressing their cheerleaders, so we decided to toss one of our buddies in the air for every point we scored... well to say the least when we hit 40... it got tough. I know for the UC, OU, and Marshall games, it has been rowdy as all heck, and that their is mass drinking, mass yelling and screaming, and with the founding of the new student lead spirit group which is swelling numbers, my guess is that the chants will be ugly but funny this fall!]

I think again it all has to do with your student body spirit, and not worrying about what other people say and just having fun! 04-drinky 04-drinky 04-drinky 04-drinky 04-drinky 04-drinky

You must not have been back for a game recently...Toledo has had a very good student turnout in recent years. Maybe not as wild as at some places, but definitely large and vocal.
The student section used to show up in force... at all the night games... It used to be way cool when there was still grass in the two corner sections... But, it has always been that the Toledo student sections are totally packed, but not too vocal... My question is whether they still bring their leather pouches with booze?

I remember when NIU was first trying to get into the MAC... they played their first game at the glass bowl and we totally crushed them... all I remember is the drunken chants... "welcome to the mac... welcome to the mac..." HA... they still cant beat us in the Glass Bowl!!!
Marshall has a tradition of winning MAC-East, MAC and Bowl Championships. :bighat:

History tells us that they also have a history of cheating to obtain those goals. 05-nono
