It the break between teleconferences of MAC West and East Coaches the MAC will have "special announecment".....

A new deal has been struck with ESPN is what sources are saying.

(could be something as simple as Vandelay said- Army playing MAC teams, but they would be televised and thus more exposure, which is alway a good thing!)

GOOOOO MAC!!!
Or could UCF be announced as an all sports member????
Army??...I thought is was Navy.

Either one is a big W for the MAC schools. I think even Buffalo took Army to the shed a year or two ago.

Or it might be something totally unexpected. I'm guessing that EMU is announcing a move to the ACC.

The Central Florida theory makes the most sense to me. We'll find out soon enough, I guess.
Actually, I think the announcement that BG has changed its mascot name to Bowling Green Bird Brains... makes the most sense to me... 03-lol

I'll bet that the announcement has nothing to do with more TV... ESPN just doesn't get it...

Army is bad...very bad. Navy has a new coach and he's very good. He was their OC when they went to a bowl game in the '90's. He was also at Ga Southern. Navy is turning things around.

Navy pummeled Army last year, and that's a sign of things to come until Army makes another move (or Navy loses this coach).

CMU plays in Annapolis this fall, I think it will be a true test of what kind of coach DuBord is. If CMU loses (and I think they will) hopefully the Chips will find another coach.

No offense to UCF, but them joining in all sports is not something that I'm jumping for joy about. For KSU. increased travel costs with little benefit in b-ball and more potential loss of traditional rivalries is not good. I miss playing Toledo, BG, and the Michigans more consistently like the old days.
playing or losing flash?

I believe that our all-sports finishes speak for themselves... 04-rock
Yep, the Flashes came in a close 2nd to the mighty RedHawks in the men's all sports trophy. Gee, wonder if C-USA will take a look at us, Flashfan, so we can tell them no.

Speaking of conference realignment, for a chuckle you guys should go over to the dysfunctional C-USA board once in awhile. I hardly ever post there (I think once in the last 2 months), but they are hilarious with how they endlessly discuss what lucky program will get a C-USA offer after the BE is done dismantling their midwest US franchices. The MAC names mentioned the most would be UCF, Marshall and Toledo. (occasionally Miami, too). And just why would a midwest MAC team take an offer from a league that just lost UC and UL (presumably), plus very possibly the upper tier of hoops only programs (i.e. Marquette, DePaul, maybe others)?

Hey, UCF or Marshall's administration may decide to "throw in" with these guys if offered (to me it does make some sense geographically for UCF), but it's fair from a slam-dunk given the uncertainty of that league and the fact that a school like Marshall would have no geographic rivals and a huge travel expense. We shall see. :snore:

I agree emphatically. A good case could be made for football, and I am pleased that CFU is in the MAC...but all sports don't do anyone any good.
Here is the announcement on the ESPN deal:

All in all, sounds like a decent deal. Good exposure in both football and basketball, even if some is just regionally. :)
12 - 15 games a year? for basketball and football? wow... that is almost nothing... DOH!!!
No, nothing is what we used to have. This is something. And if we can improve on our league's pathetic w/l record against bcs teams we had last football season, it will only get better. Talk is cheap, though, and someone has to actually beat a good team once in while. 05-nono
Sounds like a huge improvement! 12-15 football games a year!! Fantastic. May give Marshall & UCF cause to re-consider a future offer for the "UC-less and UL-less" C-USA (if tendered) 04-rock
This isn't a whole lot. I'm hoping it is in addition to the coverage given by Fox Sports, and any regional coverage (both for home and obviously away games)

If this is an additional 12-15 games, then it's good. If it's the same 12-15 games, then it isn't much. Really just a concession that CUSA is going to dissolve and ESPN is filling in their content.
Torch: Shouldn't we look back at the last few years for a comparison? Seems to me that 12-15 games guaranteed a year is a whole lot better than we've seen in recent history, and is a confirmation of this years' much improved MAC TV schedule.
