We need some defence, help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This SUCKSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS 05-nono
As I mentioned in the other thread, I didn't see 100% of the game, so I may be wrong here. But on the surface, it looked like UT's offense was the concern (12 points total from offense, 6 of which was on a "trick play"), while the defense held their own throughout the game despite the late back-to-back breakdown in pass coverage.

Tough loss. :(
Yes I agree but we gave up I lot of bid 3rd. and longs that have to be stoped. And there running back killed us between running and receptions. We need to have better defence and better play calling on offence. Can our qb's throw the ball or what all we did was screen and little dump passes. Makes me sick i thought every one said that jones would be replaced with some one with more talent. Bruce looked decent but never threw a ball long that was completed. Cedric just look shi tyyyyyy what is up please help me out..... 03-banghead 03-banghead 03-banghead 03-banghead 03-banghead 03-banghead 03-banghead 03-banghead 03-banghead 03-banghead 03-banghead 03-banghead 03-banghead 03-banghead

I agree, the offense was our problem tonight. The same short plays over and over. Spence better have more up his sleeve than that.
Rodney Gamby should not be on the field...he got burned time after time...he`s too slow to cover the flat...

put mike broussard in
One bright spot, the Tight end did make a nice catch and run down the middle. Play calling sucked.
The second bright spot is having Liberty come to town next week. Should help the Mudhens work out some of their issues before visiting Title Town.

I'm not sure that it was the play calling as much as it was the fact that Gradkowski barely had time to get off the short passes, and the run game was a bit sluggish. Stretching the field wasn't much of an option when the defense was getting in that quickly. As Karl pointed out in another thread, the game plan was probably sound, it just wasn't executed very well. We'll get better.
I would like to comment more, however, I fell asleep in the 3rd quarter. :snore:

TE looked good. Gradkowski has talent. Dawson had trouble (probably O-line's fault). Defense was not prepared to stop the run.
Overall, the teams played like it was the first game of the season. Wait, it was.
Same for the Maryland game, except NIU played like they were in mid-season form.

Coaches say squads tend to improve most between the 1st and 2nd games. While it is tempting to write Toledo off, it would also be foolish.

Not many defenses will be prepared to stop Croom, imo. Not if Nantkes plays well. What bothered me was that Nantkes didn't appear to be much of a threat in the first half and we still didn't stop Croom. He seemed to be all that they had in the first half.
I don't know Odd, Toledo's linebackers were 5-7 yards off the line of scrimmage when UNLV was pounding the ball right at them.

Maybe the coaches didn't want to cheat too much and get beat deep?

That's pretty much their plan in every game. Worked like a charm when Amstutz was the DC. Despite being one of the people that taught this style of D to Stutz, I'm not entirely sold on West, although the D was respectable last night.
