Let's play. . .

Who wants to be [Image: 72_chryst2FP.jpg.JPG]

Disclaimer: Please ignore the Marshall ballons and button on his lapel for this exercise.

Introductory information:
Canton is like Detroit and the Motor City Bowl - you are not going to draw fans from those areas, period. Quite honestly, very few Detroit area residents know that there is a bowl game occuring at Ford Field (media coverage is the pits).

First question:
Where are your fans for the MAC Championship game going to come from?

Second question:
Do MAC schools travel well and bring 20-30K fans with them - for a MAC Championship game that will be televised?

Summary: Keep the game at campus stadiums to enhance ticket sales and collegiate atmosphere for TV.
Alas, but you are wrong about Detroit area residents......there are a number of fans on this board who have gone to the game purely as college (and MAC) football fans, even though their team wasn't in the game. The game drew 50K last year with BC providing a few thou and UT bringing 30K. Just where the heck do you think the other 15K came from, my Marshall friend?

The key to successful bowls is local participation, which is why the GMAC bowl has been successful, and the Las Vegas Bowl a complete bust most years. The success of any MAC neutral site for the MACC would be that some local fans go to the game.......I tend to think that a smaller city like Canton and their City fathers might do better than a Columbush or even Cincy.

First answer, you don't know what you're talking about. Canton is not like Detroit.

Canton is near 2 MAC schools, and the local media gives both coverage.
Detroit is near 1 MAC school and is as close to one of the biggest of the Big 10.

Detroit has pro teams to take coverage,
Canton does not.

Detroit has other takers for its stadium,
Canton would not if the playoffs are gone.

I'm not criticizing Detroit, it's just that you are spouting more nonsense trying to convince everyone the benefits of home field, when Marshall and pisshole Huntington have been the main beneficiaries.

Stupid people suck.
The 2003 MACC will be played in Toledo, and the 2004 MACC game will be played in Orlando. End of story. :snore:

well thank you...???
I've been pushing for Canton since the inception of MAC divisional play. I think it's the perfect locale and with the Hall of Fame there it adds some great atmosphere.

Detroiters do indeed support the MCB. I have been to every single MCB and, believe me, it's to support the MAC as EMU has never been anywhere close to making it to the bowl game.

1. Canton has a rich football tradition.
2. It's as neutral as any site could be and still be in the MAC's territory.
3. The locals in Canton and Massillon are absolutely insane about quality football.
4. The HOF is there.
5. It is good enough for the NFL to play there, I think we can manage.
6. No amount of Internet chatter about this will let us know how it will work, only giving it a legitimate shot will.
7. The alternatives to a neutral site are stupid. Allowing a team to buy homefield advantage? Worst idea ever for deciding a championship. Alternating between East and West champs homefields? Second worst idea ever. The year that Toledo hosted it, they had a grand total of 12 days to prepare and to sell tickets. Not to mention that one team STILL has an unfair advantage over the other one. No neutral field, no legitimate champ.
8. ESPN, the HOF, Canton/Massillon tradition, and the MAC combined would be a marketer's wet dream.
I agree completely with Oddy on this.............wait, what am I saying?? On second thought, yes, I still agree with him on this.

P.S. I especially like his comment that you won't know how successful it can be until you give it a try! Personally, I'm not positive that a neutral MACC will be a success, but it should be given a try. 04-rock
