I changed my mind about what Chryst's near-term strategy should be.

What he should do, is get on the phone w/ Tulane's president, and CUSA's commish, along w/ the MWC, WAC and SBC, and set up a playoff.

Use the current bowl structure, there are enough slots out there.

Make a huge announcement that, "With the wins over BCS opponents by NIU, Marshall, Toledo, BG, Miami (OH), L'ville, Cincy, and UNLV, that is proof the BCS does not provide a legitimate national champion...so we're going to play for one.

"The BCS conference winners will be invited, but should the elect not to participate, the slots will be filled with the best teams available, and there are obviously at least 8 good ones available.

"Should the NCAA "forbid" this to take place, it will be sued since every other division of football has a playoff with equal access available to all members.

"Should the BCS try to replicate this in the future w/o access by these conferences, those members will be sued on anti-trust grounds and trademark/patent infringement.

Have a nice day!"

Brilliant.
None of this could be done without NCAA approval. I'm not sure if that's a Division I wide decision or if it would be a decision by just Division I-A. If the later, the BCS leagues have inordinate clout over decisions for Division I-A.

Ain't gonna happen.
I think this idea is a way to force the BCS cartel ( and that is what they are BTW) to actually allow all D1 football teams a fair chance. If they are so all powerful and better than the Non BCS, then let them prove it on the field.

The only thing that matters is the scoreboard.
Progressive, reasoned ideas from a Falcon!
Are you feeling alright Torch?
This might fall right into the BCS schools lap and what they want. Keep in mind the BCS really wants a super conference alignment.
They want to divide the lines and keep all the cash to themselves. No doubt the BCS boys will then get bigger and better TV deals. What happens to the non-bcs schools when we form our own division. What kind of Bowl games and TV deals would we get? I really hope something is done in Congress and the Senate over this monopoly called the BCS. Get rid of the "C" and you have what is really stands for BS. 03-puke BCS Cartel :chair:

So, what is the difference the way it is now? I totally support Torch's proposal. Let's force their hand and show congress what they really want. But, here's the deal. If they don't play in the same league as us and want to be private schools, then no way do non-BCS schools schedule them in any sport and no way to tax dollars from the states they're in.

If they want to behave like a cartel, then treat them like one. The mid-majors will form their own championship with the winner crowned World Champ of College Football (like the Superbowl). We won't acknowledge their champ and promise recruits that they will get to play for a legitimate National Champ team. It's amazing how ludicrous you can get with the idea but I've wanted to see this for a long time. They (the BCS), formed this on their own out of greed and blanket lawlessness. Why should the mid-majors think any differently?

Now, if the mid-majors could just get over their little 'refuse to schedule each other' mentality this might have a chance.

Anyone know what the total school enrollment is BCS vs. non BCS?
When the Tulane Pres. first formed his coalition, my intial thought was just what is being proposed here. Additionally, I thought that all of the Non-BcS schools should refuse to schedule games against the BcS and only schedule games with other non-BcS in one for ones, etc. The NCAA doesn't regulate who you play and that way we all could get the 5 1-A home games required and have some interesting home games.

Screw the BcS!
This was in the Charleston Gazette this morning from Coach Pruett. I agree with him and the thoughts expressed in this thread. Either get return home games from the BCS boys or say screw you and go play other good non-BCS teams and leave the BCS boys blowin in the wind.

Pruett called on his league brethren to hold the line on scheduling, accepting only 2-for-1 and maybe 3-for-1 deals.
As a newbie on this board and a greybeard on bsufans.com (you are all invited to check that board out as well)I wanted to say that I think it is great that we, as fans of and alumni of the MAC schools are so united in the cause of equal competition. Yes we may smack each other on the field when our teams play each other, but it is really great to see this uniform solidarity.

The MAC's time has come. But it isnt over yet. BSU plays Boston College this week and I think it will be a great game. I so desperately want BSU to grab a little of the glory that the schools of the MAC EARNED last last week. One teams success is shared by all. I want to be able to say that BSU paid it's part of the tab. Along with the rest of the MAC schools. I am rooting for all of you

Ok ALL MAC GROUP HUG!!! 03-wink :)
I guess then Pruett is saying no way to WVU's 2-0 deal :)
