Not really sure why he did this, but he did and it was unprompted by other posts. For an unbiased observer of the MAC, sure sounds biased to me.
Below are his post (starting a new thread) and my reply. I just don't get it.

Shouldn't you win a few games first? You just struggled to beat Buffalo for crying out loud while USF was beating an undefeated Louisville team. Before stating how bad the MAC is or how much you don't fit in, why not win a few games first, earn a championship, and get to a bowl game? You are putting the cart before the horse.
And while a southern affiliation is probably the best option for UCF overall in all sports, IF you end up in C-USA, look for a drop off in talent you go against on the field. That's why USF is doing so well in that league because their top programs are not nearly as good as the MAC's top teams (Miami, NIU, Toledo, BG & Marshall).
Finally, keep dreaming about a Big East invite. That's not going to happen people, at least, not in my lifetime.

Did you get a bunch of mean e-mail because you picked Ohio?
If I were you, I would've done the same thing.
I truely believe you have formed an opinion of us UCF fans that is probably way off base.
I can tell you point blank- WE HAVE A HUGE AMOUNT OF RESPECT FOR THE MAC TEAMS AND WE ROOT FOR THEM WHEN PLAYING OOC GAMES!
The point is- We need all sports in one conference and with revenues compared to travel costs, the MAC may not be the best scenario in those regards.
Finally, unlike Herd Fans, we are humble when we have been humbled. (eg- this season) Just check the MAC bbs, we appologize for our performance in games.
So, I have one question. What prompted you to make this post? By doing so, your credibilty just went in the toilet with me.
Just my opinion, I could be wrong.

I just don't get it. It's not like we (fans) are going around trashing the MAC. We're proud to be a part of it and wish we'd contribute more.
I think I've heard 1 person talk crap about the MAC. Nick has his panties in a wad and needs to shut his mouth.

Hey Nick- this is me telling you to shut your mouth. Comprende?

Credibility----lost.
I've heard quite a few UCF fans running their mouths about the MAC, and more than one of them have been on this board.

I think Nick has more credibility on these issues in his little finger than the lot of University of Central Fredo fans combined...
Oh, and Knight Time... piss off. Seriously. People are free to have differing opinions here.
Let's get a couple of things straight here.

(1) I gave a very accurate thought with regards to quite a few posts on the UCF board. There have been a lot of posts and responses about UCF not being a fit, students and fans having little interest, travel, and other issues with regards to bolt the MAC if at all possible. If you read my initial response closely above, you see that I certainly acknowledge that some sort of southern affiliated league is probably best for UCF, but at this point in time, it hasn't happened yet for an all sports affiliation.

(2) There have been a few posters (not many) that have taken some pop-shots at the MAC as a whole. I am a die-hard MAC fan, probably one of the few, and certainly am one of the few persons in the MAC Media Association that is predominately "pro-MAC." I will stick up for the conference on any board, and yes I certainly know that there are only a few people dogging the MAC in that forum.

(3) Several times there have been some discussions with regards to leaving the MAC, or never even getting into it at all in the first place. I make a very blanket statement that before you dog the conference, shouldn't you win something first? Most MAC fans would share that same sentiment.

Finally, I have never - not been pro-UCF as long as you guys have been in the MAC. In fact, I pubically pushed for it in many of my articles prior to it happening. As long as you are a conference member, I root for you. Always have - always will.

As for losing credibility? I'll put my record of MAC knowledge and facts against anyone's, both in formal publication or on any chat board. I bleed the MAC in terms of the college programs I root for and if one honest statement seems to push a few buttons for a few individuals, so be it.

If you or the person's on your board are that thin-skinned to be this upset over a few honest opinions, and then a few screwballs to take some pop-shots at me personally, I don't care. Life is far too short for a few number of Internet idiots to get me down.

Good luck to UCF in the future, regardless of where you may or may not end up.

PS: Don't forget, when no else wanted you, the MAC did. How soon some people forget.
Not to be overly crude, but the corn in Nick's crap knows more about the MAC than the average UCF fan.

If we can only cure him of that slight UT blind spot... 03-wink

Nick's credibility is far less at issue than your basic judgment, Fredo-boy. The others have reinforced that point beyond my meager powers to do so.

I should note as a pet peeve, however, how completely juvenile and brain-dead it is to -- as a first resort -- question another poster's masculinity and/or sexuality. Put aside for the moment that we have women posters, most of whom know a lot more about the MAC than you do: The phrase "panties in a wad" is just so much third-grade nonsense.

All of you folks who were so quick to post your IQs yesterday need to grow up and get a clue, even if you have to rent one.
I tend to think UCF would be a better fit in a Southern league...but it cracks me up when many UCF posters drag the other "non-revenue sports" in to the argument with concern to MAC travel costs. Suddenly, UCF'ers are so concerned about these lesser sports and their impact on the University budget and fans getting to travel to games (as if it's so much cheaper for a women's volleyball team to travel to Texas or Kentucky as opposed to Ohio).

I can make the analogy that some of you should not want to kick Buffalo out of the MAC since our Woman's soccer and woman's BBall teams are really competitive. You see, I can bring up the lower tier sports when it's convenient for my argument.
My problem with your post is the

Not really sure who you were responding to. The smacker Knight-time or me.

Believe me, I respect your knowledge and passion for the MAC. I love it too!

Maybe I missed it, but I just don't know what prompted the post. I guess I missed a thread or something. For the UCF board, I would say it's 50-50 on staying MAC and going all sports or a more southern affiliation.

Please remember, we have flamers just like every other school. But most of us are very respectful (fans).

Sorry Nick, it just kind of stunned me.

Gooo Knights and Gooo MAC!
How does a guy lose credibility for sharing an honest opinion? This ain't the Wall Street Journal, folks, it's the world of college football. Nick's credibility lies in his vast wealth of knowledge about Mid-American Conference football. That knowledge is untouched by 99% of posters I've seen on here. He shares his opinions in his picks every week and is free to go on and share whatever other opinions he has on whatever message boards he likes. As are we all.
We've all always known he's a Toledo rooter, but that doesn't mean he's always picked UT to win or given anyone else an unfair shake.
Bottom line: when I first got hooked up to the internet a few years ago, there was no place dedicated to anything about MAC sports except Nick's Vandelay site.
Throwing down a little wisdom on some UCF fans doesn't do an ounce of damage to his cred.

Saw nothing in Vandelay's post that I don't agree with.
I think VanDelay would like to distance himself from Herd Fans as much as possible if he wants to remain credible. Or how about smart even? You're not helping the cause Chevy. It's like getting the seal of approval from Satan himself.
