Pretty funny that repeated drunk driving and other alcohol related offenses, malicious wounding, assault, abuse of women, etc. are not enough to draw serious punishment, yet this incident was enough to get Bates effectively booted from the team. Very, very telling statement regarding Marshall football.
I think that was a bit excessive... but, hey... Marshall's season is going to end after the 11th game anyway
A pretty good call, IMO. Suspend a guy like that for a few games and he just gets madder about what he's already mad about. Suspend him for the season and maybe he'll do some serious thinking.
Serious thinking about other colleges... If I was him... I would bolt asap!!!
I don't think the suspension was too severe at all. Basically, you have a 20yr old kid having a temper-tantrum on the sideline of a football game because he's not getting enough playing time. To hell with the TEAM...it's about MY playing time. NO program needs that, especially displayed publicly like that.
Ok... so, you take him out of a couple of games... not the entire season...

I agree, Karl. However, in comparison to what goes on down there all of the time, this is small time. Funny what triggers Bobby to do what is right...and what doesn't.
I did like how the article called him Bobby Pruett.

I agree, in the grand scheme of all that is Marshall, this may SEEM like small potatoes. But I feel very strongly that this is the sort of thing a coach just cannot and should not excuse. Never.
