Amen, sister! Preach it!

Absolutely. Same thing happens all over. Even Iowa had grief over an internet picture of their campus radio station, and one person was wearing a "Michigan" sweatshirt.

But, kudos for her speaking up. They (and BG, etc) should run such articles 1-2/year.
I've long thought we should round up Big Ten clothing and what not and ceremonially burn it during half time of the opening home game.
I like it.
"The Big Ten Burn" should be a tradition on every MAC campus.

Just please don't forget Notre Dame.

I'd say that's a much bigger problem at NIU. Our Big 10 rival is significantly less menacing than yours. 03-lol
I'll bet if the MAC office worked on it, they could come up with a national sponsor, to print sweat shirts, hats, t-shirts, or anything else, and have a "bring-one-trade-one" to every MAC opening game, and then burn all of the Big 10 stuff at a post game gathering!!
Maybe a little tweaking is needed on this idea, but something similar is NEEDED. The MAC needs to promote itself and increase their identity!!!
This crap goes on all of the time on EMU's campus. You will see five people wearing Michigan sweatshirts to every one person wearing an EMU shirt. I have heard people say that they love going to EMU because they are closer to the games of their favorite team, Michigan!! 03-banghead

IDIOTS! :chair:
The most egregious example of this I can think of is NIU's ultra-idiot former Coach Charlie Sadler (mentioned for the 2nd time today, go figure). He was very open about the fact he coveted the job at Oklahoma, and he was using NIU as a stepping-stone to get his dream job. First day of practice the guy shows up wearing Oklahoma warmup gear. 03-banghead

Sadler actually succeeded in making me nostalgic for the Lee Corso era... 03-lol
I was most impressed at Ball State's homecoming a couple of weeks ago. I was in town Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and walked around campus all three days. I didn't see ONE Indiana University shirt or hat being worn by any BSU student, and I only saw a couple of other schools represented on students' apparel, mainly Ivy League. I saw two dudes at the football game wearing Purdue gear, but it turned out they were Purdue students who came down to Muncie for the weekend's festivities, so I didn't bag on 'em.

I'm sure there are still students who wear that junk, but the problem has been reduced dramatically since my days as an undergrad. And at least the students know not to wear it on the weekend of a big home game.

Which is another reason why I'm so bummed we haven't had a decent football team in seven years... school spirit at BSU seems to grow every year.

I know where this columnist is coming from, though. Lord knows I said that last line to a few doofuses around campus during my undergrad years who didn't seem to appreciate the place where they were ACTUALLY ATTENDING as a college student.
I wouldn't wear any IU gear during football season either!!! How does it look around campus during basketball season?
Megan Burgasser's article, "Kent State Students Shouldn't Be OSU Fans," is well written. I totally agree with what she says and have always wondered why any KSU student would want to wear attire from another school. If a Kent student has stronger feelings for OSU than he or she has for KSU, then that student should transfer there since Ohio State is not selective and will take just about any student who is a high school graduate. Because Notre Dame is a very selective school and the premier catholic school in the country, I can see why some students who do not attend ND may want to wear its apparel. However, the idea of KSU students wearing OSU shirts or caps does not make any sense to me. Equally confusing is seeing Middle Tennessee students wearing orange and white. When I see such students wearing UT shirts and caps, I am tempted to ask them why they want to support a redneck school. Since most of UT's fans probably could not spell the University of Tennessee much less have ever attended the school, I will never understand why any student who attends another university would want to wear anything that recognizes UT.

Basically the same. It's mainly the townies who need to be educated that the two shades of red aren't interchangeable.

The fans of that school in Bloomington were shocked that they ended up practically shut out of Worthen Arena for the Cardinals-Loosiers tilt last New Year's Eve. I heard the Eye Youees arrogantly predicting before the game that they'd have a "homecourt advantage" in our house, and to their dismay, the crowd was 90 percent Cardinal backers. And it probably would not have even been that many Loosier fans had the Cards not started out in the toilet last year after Smith's injury.

It was also nice to watch the few Knightophiles who were there passing bricks as a Cardinal team with only seven scholarship players dressed took their ranked team to the last five minutes of the game. Wish we'd been at full strength, or at least somewhere close to it.

Hey Papa Lou, I was in Muncie that weekend.. I saw a number of Miami related apparrel being worn. 03-wink

Worry not, I picked up a stylish Ball State sweatshirt (and a long sleeve T thanks to the 2-for-1 Homecoming special at the off-campus bookstore). Although, I'm most delighted with my purchase of a set of Ball U pilsners.

As for Megan Burgasser's article, AMEN, preach the MAC gospel sister!!!

I would rather see them donate it to homeless shelters. For one thing, the clothing could probably do good. For another, it would add to the humor to see the most down and out representing the Big 10. The coincidence would not go unnoticed.

Certainly, this is true. But they weren't being worn by any BSU students, which was the point of the thread. And the Miami fans had the good sense to wait until Saturday to wear their gear... 03-wink

Seriously, though, Miami fans represented pretty well at that game, numbers-wise. Probably well over 3,000...

I see Corso on TV every weekend...Did he suck as a head coach? I was never clear on it, I guess he is not coaching now so that might be indicative of his talents?

First: I am a HUGE Kent State fan. But I have to take issue with the above poster. If you grew up loving a particular college program, and then attended somewhere else, that's fine. I don't think that liking the Buckeyes makes me any less a Flashes fan. I went to the OSu Kent Game last year, decked out in blue and Gold. I did not sit in the Kent section, so I took some flack all game. I also partied hard during last years Fiesta bowl.

I never went to OSU. Nobody in my family did either (both parents, grandma, sister in law went to Kent) I can like both programs. I never got the arguement that because I didn't go there, I can't root for the team. I'll never play for the Browns, but I love them too. Your college favorites don't need to die when you graduate High school.

When you are dealing with a Big 10 school, they are the team that was on TV all the time. The best players form the area highschools tended to go to Big 10 schools. You shoundn't feel guilty that you are rooting for them. Besides OSU is a public school. Some of my tax dollers went to rennovating that stadium. That's why I will root for all the Ohio schools. In the GMAC or Moter City Bowl, I'll pull for the team from Ohio. I'll root for Dayton or Cincinatti or whichever Ohio teams are in the basketball tounrament. None of this makes me less of a Kent fan.

Plus there is a nostalgic element to some of these fans. One of my greatest sports memories was watching the Rose Bowl with OSU and Ariz St. at my grandmothers on New Years Day. Grandma, Dad, Mom, my siblings and I crammed around that small TV eating and watching a great game. I shoulden't have to abandon those memories because I went to Kent.

The truth is, I never seriously wanted to go to OSU. I mean, most kids want to attend when they are young, but as I started making my college choices, I realized that AI was better off at KEnt. That's right, I actually CHOSE to go to KEnt. Most kids just end up there because it's close, or cheap, or they failed out of another school.

YOu should like and support your school. But that doesn't mean taht they can be the only college you cheer for on Saturday
That's fair enough. I think the author was addressing those folks who prioritize their loyalty to Ohio A&M *over that to their own university*. I think those types of weasels are perfectly deserving of contempt and scorn.
