Nice attendance Toledo, pathetic. 03-banghead
Buffalo+No Students=18,001
Not the entire reason, but CMU had the Michigan/Michigan State tilt at noon to contend with (our game was at 1:00PM). I would have expected at least a couple thousand more, if not for that. Also, EMU fans don't even travel to Ypsilanti well.
Maumee, nice pic of GW at the bottom, I like your style 04-rock

Ah but WE'VE been told that we are not supposed to count on the fans from other schools to help raise our attendance. That is one of the many counter-arguments to our complaints about MAC attendance. They don't help us fill our stadium. The retort is that it is not their place to help us fill our stadium. The same attitude will undoubtedly lead to losing some MAC schools.

Golly, so very sorry we disappointed you. You posted merely to flame, so what the hell. You'll take it as making excuses, so I'm not very inclined to give you any useful information, but I can. Last night was opening night in the high school state playoffs. The 2 teams playing last night were both Toledo teams, Whitmer and St. John's. St. John's upset the top-ranked Panthers just last week in the final game of the regular season. A few people went there instead of to the UT game. Oh, and did anyone mention we played BUFFALO?

03-puke Herdon :chair:
As my great High School Football Coach Claude Darr, would say, I don't want to hear excusses. The weather was outstanding, no excuse for that lame a crowd. Sure I was flaming, I hate Toledo, but It still dosen't diminish the fact that you guys are indicitive of this whole conference when it comes to attendance. You rate about 5th on the check off list in terms of things to do.

That is why the Herd is leaving, that and the fact that we have done all we can, 5 out of 6, 6 straight east titles. We want to play ina conference that has a higher percentage of alumni and towns people come to the games and care about there schools. While you die hards on this board care, over all MAC football is an after thought for most. Bye Bye 04-rock
Actually, you're right.
It has been ever thus, all recent posturing by MAC fans here aside.

But we were there! Sorry to say, actually.

I raised it as more of an afterthought. Of course, being in contention for something better than a .500 season would also help attendance. The weather wasn't bad: a little cold (about 45 degrees) but there was no rain or wind.

Did I or did I not say you'd take it as making excuses? I'm pretty certain I did. Damn, you're so predictable. Weather was outstanding for this time of year, no doubt about it, in spite of the light rain we got for about 10 minutes in the 3rd quarter.

We're indicative of this whole conference? Don't we all wish THAT were true! I think if you go back through the last 6 years you'll be hard-pressed to find ANY team in this conference with attendance that comes close to Toledo. I would suggest, as a matter of fact, that we are indicative of what the rest of the conference NEEDS TO BE.

Sorry you don't feel that local high school football is important, but especially with those two particular teams, it most certainly is. This was Whitmer's first year in the City League, and they were undefeated until losing in the last week. St. John's is one of 4 Catholic high schools in the City League, and always one of the best. Oh, and it's an all-boys school, as is one of the others, St. Francis. Those two teams have huge followings (there were over 5000 kids at Whitmer when I attended in the 70s), and they WILL go to the playoffs rather than a UT game against BUFFALO.

As for why you're leaving (and I only mean this to YOU, not all Herd in general), I don't care why...just so long as you take your sorry ****** SOMEWHERE ELSE. Buh Bye. 05-nono
I'm not exactly happy with the attendance at the UT game myself, but there were some tough factors on us.

For the first time ever, 3 City League schools made the state playoffs in Division I. They all played Saturday night, with two of them playing right in Toledo. That severely hurt attendance because those were also the 3 best high schools in terms of attendance. Add on that there were some other playoff games going on in the Toledo area for schools in the lower divisions and then this........

We lost to Ball State last week and there are a lot of bandwagon fans that come to UT games. Every time we lose a game there is at least a few thousand less fans at the next game. Add on that there was probably no more than about 100 Buffalo fans at the game as well.

Like I said, I am not happy with 18K.....however, even with all of the factors and the fact that it was a crappy day (even started to rain in the 3rd Qtr), we still had over 3K more than the proposed attendance requirements and this was by far below our average. Even with this game we are averaging 23,849 for the season.

And you're indicative of all Marshall fans....

Bye Bye
GTS - can we please move the Marshall board over to C-USA? Herdon doesn't want to be around here anyway, and no one in the MAC wants him here either.

Toledo is the only MAC school to average over 30K for an entire season. Marshall has not done it. Turn around Herdon so we can all boot your a$$ out of here! 03-nutkick
The reason Marshall is leaving is because NIU, BG, Miami and Toledo have taken away the spotlight from Marshall, this year. Is why they made the announcement the weekend of the BG/NIU game about voting on joining C-USA. Sure they came in and won right away in the MAC but they had the spotlight directed on them each and every year and now, well, their lightbulb is a lil weak this year, they figure it is time to move on to another conference where they can dominate Convict-USA with all the top programs of that league leaving to take on other ventures. The spotlight will always be on them there.
You got me for another year :D

I don't know. GTS moved the VaTech, BC, and Miami forums off of the Big East and to the ACC already.....want not move Marshall???

Falcon Frenzy - I totally agree with you. The funny thing is that Marshall holds their own destiny in the East and could win it and play in the MAC Championship game. However, many other MAC teams are getting more recognition this year and it is killing them. Pruett is probably so pissed that his family can't keep enough moonshine around for him anymore.
Bright note for UCF. We barely beat some really crappy teams, but we still draw pretty well. We need to get some new blood in the coaching staff to reinvigorate the crowds though.

As my great high school english teacher, Tom Slagel used to say "If you can't proofread to prevent simple spelling mistakes, you're as dumb as a barrell of smashed ******holes."
