Full Version: Could the game in Oxford be ugly?

This has all the makings of a very ugly game. BUGS is coming off a huge win against NIU. Miami players can talk all they want about focusing on this game and not on Marshall but that's questionable. The game is absolutely meaningless in terms of the conference race because, even with a loss, both teams still control their own destiny. The players are well aware that the game means nothing in terms of the title race.

Most people think this will be a close game. I think it will be a blowout. One team is going to come in ready to play and the other will have spent the week either celebrating a big win or thinking about the next game. If I had to guess, I'd put my money on the Redskins. They haven't had a big game in a while and they're at home.
It isn't meaningless.

If Bowling Green wins Tuesday and Northern Illinois beats Toledo, the Falcons would about clinch the West Division title before the post-Thanksgiving Black Swamp Brawl.

I don't see the Falcons coming out flat.
I find it pretty hard to believe neither team will not be focused for this game.

BG 31, other birds of prey 26.
See here's what you don't get. It's why we'll be happy to say saionara to the University of Marshall.

1. Conferences promote rivalry. BG and Miami (OH) have the most conference championships. These teams don't like each other and always want to get "one up". This doesn't happen for conference hopping teams.

2. Good teams don't try just to "get by". These teams want a national presence. They want to win on the highest level. I commend Miami (OH) for not playing Div IAA teams, but note that BG plays top OOC teams most years. They don't try to slide by w/ an anemic OOC schedule and poach a couple of victories over good teams.

This game is a game between good teams. Top 25 teams. They'll be ready.

3. Many of these students went to HS or played against each other in HS. This happens in conferences that make sense. It doesn't happen among teams that are 1500 miles apart.

This has the potential to be one of the best MAC games ever. The only downside is it's probably only Part I. However, I don't think either team will pass up this opportunity.
The game had the potential to look really ugly, but I'm pretty sure the league office won't let BG wear their orange jerseys.

(I've got a newer TV set, but I still don't think it could handle an entire field full of red and pumpkin-patch orange.)
What is the obsession you guys have about BG's colors?

It's orange...deal with it already.
Ummm, we DO "deal with it" . . . mostly by making road cone jokes, since BG's shade of orange happens to be one of the ugliest school colors on the face of God's earth.

Perhaps you should take some coping lessons over that. But, out of an abiding consideration for your feelings, if you'd like, I can switch back to talking about tractor pulls or the tree.
How about flat? We could talk about flat! Everyone loves to talk about flat!
It's flat!

A scenery good enough for ESPN's College GameDay...ya happen to catch it?

Of course, we could always join the 1,000,000 college sports programs that wear red.

Yeah, they were there for the "scenery". Btw, I hope that all of those ODOT workers that were there watching Corso were on their lunch break, I'd hate to think my tax dollars went to make the mouse look good.
Nope. Didn't catch it.

I gather that you'd rather I stick with the orange jokes. (Actually, so would I since I'm a native of the Homeland.) BTW, did anyone ever talk to you about leading with your chin?

(And, thanks for the compliment, axe. I don't think anyone around here has used the stupid sign on me in at least a week. 03-lol )

And windy. It really blows in BG.
Stale stereotypes and chin-leading entrances aside, it came across pretty darn good on TV.

How about a nice shade of gray? That would be more fitting, given the gray pallor that hangs over your campus most of the winter. If you totally opened up one end of the stadium, it would be like your players were wearing camouflage.
I'm sure my uncle was pleased.

And, if you'd like to suggest some fresh BG jokes, I'd be happy to hear them.
Yep, it showed that BG could phony up a crowd just like a BCS school can.

It didn't MEAN anything, but it looked good for TV.

Orange is beautiful. I find red a rather violent and empty color. It shows a lack of creativity. It is a cookie-cutter color, basically.

All this is subjective. Much like you believing there are pretty females in Oxford. I have never known of any - at least once you chisel their make-up off.

Psst. They're colors. I don't understand the issue here. At least they aren't blue and gold. How about purple? Gads.
I suppose that is saying something if the ONLY disparaging remarks you can muster against my beloved alma mater is the colors of their uniform and/or your false perceptions of reality.

And can we please put the tree 'slam' to rest? It isn't the least bit amusing any longer. If you think this is funny I have about 10 "knock-knock" jokes the kids next door recite ad nauseam.

Orange is beautiful. I have the ORANGE CHUCK TAYLOR HIGH TOPS as proof.

Um, no.

Summing up: I believe that orange makes for ugly football uniforms, but that Miami has plenty of beautiful women. You believe neither.

I think I'm content to rest at this point.

(FWIW, I have plenty of respect for BG -- my local state U growing up -- but not this week!)
