Full Version: If I were the UCF pres, I'd fire the AD

This isn't meant to be a flame.

But, now that the decisions are in, I'd say the UCF AD is a huge failure. UCF's mission was to get into a major conference (aka BCS). No one knew the details, Big East, ACC, SEC...but the task was clear. Put UCF in the big time.

Instead, you get USF's hand-me-downs.

I know there were setbacks w/ injuries in fball. But, UCF had plenty of shots at Big East teams...and blew it.

They have a bad reputation as trash-talkers...but don't win enough.

They have Culpeper in the NFL...but their new star QB is on probation.

Honestly, I've seen coaches fired for less. Your AD should take the rap, it was his responsibility.
Didn't they just hire the guy?
It's not our current AD's fault. Our previous administration simply ignored our Olympic sports to focus on football. Fortunately, AD Orsini is a great addition to our University and has the vision necessary to get us to where we want to be.
Hey Birdbrain, their new star QB is out... gone... vamoosed... discarded... gotten da boot
I'm not sure the Big East is going to be a viable BCS conference when the dust settles and the Big 10 wakes up and takes a Pitt or WVU, but you folks should be roayally pissed. You're putting over $100 million into athletic facilities, you have an enrollment that's in what, the top five numerically in America(?) and you're in the tourist mecca of the south, Orlando Fl. How the hell did USF leapfrog you guys when they didn't even field a frigging football team until 1997?
Toledo will most likely get the Big 11 to make it Big 12 bid... But, wisely... We will turn it down!!! :snore:

Well, sounds like they got rid of one bum, but so far Orsini hasn't shown much. The choice for CUSA seems poor. Even if it's timing.
Well, UCF had little choice in the end, and the MAC is not the best fit for them (or us, for that matter). If we go back to being a good regional conference, we can hopefully stage a neutral site MACC (Canton looks much better w/o UCF as a possible participant), and another regional (i.e. Indy) bowl game to replace the GMAC if necessary down the road.
From the Big East p.o.v. the league just bides their time. If UCF ever lives up to its supposed promise, then the Big East will snap them up. No sense getting them now while they are weak in football and you're already trying to get people used to the idea of USF. So, in the long run there may be hope for the Knights.

But in the meantime, UCF is stuck in the same no-man's-land situation. Not knowing how long they'll be in a conference, etc.
After quotes from Orsini and Selmon a couple weeks ago, I made the comment that Orsini sounded like he was begging while Selmon sounded like he knew something he wasn't supposed to let out of the bag. Sounds like that analysis was dead on.
Huskie Dan...you may have been right, good call regardless. I'm not jealous of what USF got, it just helps drive home a point that UCF has a LOT of growing to do still. Hopefully now the AD, coach, players and fans will realize that to succeed, you must first experience growing pains. Honestly, I don't believe UCF has really had a "huge win" since we were playing in the IIA semi-finals 10 or 12 years ago. Yes, spoiling Alabama's homecoming was nice a few years back, but they were really down that year. I wish we would have been able to leave a good, positive mark on the MAC, both with our record and the way the team conducted itself, but so far that really hasn't been the case. Last year we were a respectable 6-2 but still fell short of our goals and this year, well there's really no sense in re-hashing that mess!

I've enjoyed the last 2 years in the MAC and the past several months posting on this board. Leaving for CUSA just made too much sense geographically and also in terms of fan interest. The MAC has a lot going for it right now and I hope that us and Marshall leaving doesn't slow the momentum (doubtful that it will as there will continue to be great football played each Saturday here in the MAC!) 04-rock
