Firstly, Dayton played well and has a superior team.

Against teams with a decent frontcourt, CMU will struggle.

Unless a consistent scorer emerges, Central will go through scoring droughts. Two long stretches without a basket doomed them against Dayton.

The Chippewas will attempt to compensate for raw talent by playing a pressure defense the entire game, rotating in players every few minutes.

Overall, if the players don't quit, I expect CMU to be around a .500 team this year.

I won't mention "if we had Kaman" anymore this season. This would be a dangerous team with him. A dominant center with a slew of three-point shooters would have been interesting to see.
I watched some of that game on TV. Looks like you fell so behind, so early, that it was just too much to make up later.

Speaking of falling behind early, we're getting our butts kicked in Detroit. Beating UDM hoops in Detroit is like beating UT football in the Glass Bowl. We just can't do it, regardless of what year it is.
One "bright spot" for CMU was keeping good care of the ball. No careless turnouts this game, compared to several in just about every game last year.
I can't find any bright spots with the Broncos tonight. You know our offense is bad when our leading scorer at halftime has a whopping 5 points.
So far, NIU is also getting manhandled by Notre Dame. Not a good night for the MAC. :(

Update: Broncos fall 64-43.

NIU down 61-44 to Notre Dame with 7 minutes to go.

Miami is beating up on some high school somewhere. 03-wink

Update II: Notre Dame holds off NIU late rally, wins by nine.
When IS there a good night for MAC basketball?

Not counting the games against Division 5 teams that would lose to the local YMCA.

Well, it was a big night when Kent State beat Pittsburgh in 2002 to advance to the NCAA Elite Eight.

When was the last time UCF played in the NCAA Tournament???

Where have you been in the previous 15 college basketball seasons? Try a google search on regular season and post season games. You'll find 150-200 instances that refute your smack.
My quick take on the CMU game:

Dayton is a good team that should make the field of 64. They have a good, and very large frontcourt balanced by good outside shooting. Top it all off with the ability to penetrate with great passing, and you have a team that's tough to beat.

CMU is struggling to adjust to life without Kaman. For that matter, life without J.R. Wallace and Mike Manciel isn't helping. 04-drinky Okie, I'd be pretty happy with that .500 season you mentioned. I pretty-much dialed-down my expectations when Kaman declared for the draft. Add the loss of our other Big Two, and it has rebuilding year written all over it. Against teams who are less big up front, CMU's weaknesses will be less apparent, though.

Voorhees and Dentlinger will be respectable up front. Brigitha could be, but he has to step up a couple notches. He hasn't played to potential since his freshman year, IMO. Nelson and transfer Sevalia look like go-to guys, and Meerman was steady tonight. Hoskins looked like a freshman in his first D-I college game. When he settles down a little, he could be another guy similar to Manciel (hopefully with less injury trouble!).
