that's the word going around on some of the boards.......
Word on Hawktalk is yes.
Check Hawktalk for details..........should've been an announcement within the last hour, with the football team being told in a couple of hours at practice. Now, we need to "sweat" it out and see if we get a ranked TCU in the game. Having the likely opponent of NW in the MCB made it logical for Miami to accept an early offer to the GMAC so traveling arrangements could be made..........I also think that the GMAC and ESPN were hoping that a Miami acceptance would make TCU more of a probability, thus setting up a highly "watchable" game for the TV ratings.
TCU vs Miami (Oh) will be a great bowl game for about 10 minutes......will get Miami more credibility when they win by 50

Miami 64
TCU 14

That's about the size of it.

I know folks will say that Miami (OH) has too much class to RUTS....but they should. They should set it straight that they wanted U$C, LSU, tOAMU, Mich, Miami (Fla).

They should also be adamant that those teams were too chicken to ante up.
Congrats Miami , Good Luck and have fun .....

I know I'm a homer, but I'm pretty certain tOAMU should be off that list. Not only did they play MUr just a few years ago (and BG this year), they will continue to schedule non-BCS Ohio schools in the future.

Also, just out of curiosity, why is TCU such a desirable opponent? I know they were the non-BCS media darling, but wouldn't a victory over a BCS conference opponent be a much larger statement? TCU's loss at USM already killed the momentum on that bandwagon.

Who are the other possible opponents?

Thanks...
Any BCS conference opponent available for a game to which Miami realistically had a shot at being invited would have had five or six losses.

I suppose I will now be accused of anti-Big Ten myopia for suggesting that it is far preferable from a competitive standpoint to have a likely matchup with a one-loss TCU team. Even with the loss, TCU is solidly in the top 20. In contrast, the most likely opponent in Detroit is Northwestern. (You have to deal with the hideous purple either way.)

BTW, you and I both know full well that the Cow College plays the Ohio MAC schools only because the General Assembly basically forces them to. I'm not awarding a lot of brownie points for that.
Texas Christian is attractive because of all the national pub they've gotten. The game could be a matchup of one-loss teams, which is extremely attractive.

Possible alternatives:

-- Southern Mississippi
-- Memphis
-- another Conference USA team.

Texas Christian is the most intriguing choice.
Thanks Schaden....looking at the alternatives, TCU is the most attractive option.

DG......true, but at least they do it. So does Michigan. Heck, Iowa goes home and home with you guys! OU with Minnesota, etc. You know and I know the Big Ten isn't the worst offender in the conspiracy....
Congrats Redhawks ( I still prefer Redskins) I know you'll do the MAC proud and kick the bejabbers out of TCU 04-bow

After we beat you on the 4th, of course...
I think both schools could benifit from a close game. A blowout on either side would cause people to say the loser was a bad opponent, noth that the winner was that good.
My bottom line: TCU is ranked.

Plus, they're the best Mountain West Conference team available! *DUCKING*
Congrats to Miami. It's been a long time coming since getting screwed in that 10-1 season. I would've liked to have seen Roeth live in the MCB, but it's best not to be paired in another rematch with Northwestern. So I'll just have to root for you guys in the Big House next year (provided it doesn't collide with my trip to Champaign to see WMU vs. Illinois). :)
In other words, it'll be a home game for the C-USA team.
From the North Texas Board: TCU declines the GMAC Bowl

Washington Post (that is a paper in Washington DC) quotes TCU Athletic Director Eric Hyman " I have to be sensitive to our young people. They are student-athletes, but they are also students, and they are coming to school to get an education. We cannot disrupt their exams. It's not fair to them."
This is in today's (Nov 27, 2003) paper.

Other information contained in article stated that TCU had other options as the Fort Worth Bowl (Dec 23 and Hawii Bowl (Dec 25) would not conflict with TCU exam schedule.
A final "f-you" to CUSA on the way out the door? They've moved exams before to go to a bowl. This is VERY odd.
It seems pretty sad that TCU never commented on this publicly before, although I know they will just say that it is only appropriate as the bid becomes more obvious. The bowl schedule and CUSA tie in has been set for quite some time, as has the TCU exam schedule. They could have made this declaration a long time ago. Instead, it comes out days after they find out the opponent will be a very good Miami team which has great shot of defeating them. I'm not saying athletics should come first, and I'm not saying that TCU is "lying", but it sure smells funny. 03-pissed

Miami had no choices given the current bowl process, which sucks. They had to take GMAC over MCB since a Northwestern rematch would've been pathetic. Oh well, I am happy to see them in a bowl regardless. 04-drinky

Also, TCU is putting CUSA in a bad spot with one of their bowls. Could this be another slight sign that TCU is distancing itself from CUSA.
I think Texas Christian is just chicken.
