Good luck to Miami & BG in the MAC title game !

The field conditions at BG looked pretty bad , but I don't
recall many people slipping around. Anyone there that
can say if it was as bad as it looked on TV ??
ah, crap. I hate rematches. And that turf looks to be great fun...

Yes, it was as bad as it looked on tv, if not worse. Shoot, it looked bad before the band took the field for the pregame show. But frankly, it wasn't as bad as I expected either. And there wasn't nearly as much slipping around as the field would have made you think. It may have affected UTs power running game a little, but BGs defense had more to do with that than the field. They seemed to ALWAYS be in position on our short-yardage offense, running AND throwing. Great job of scouting and coaching there. Good luck to the Falcons on Thursday.
I'm not a big fan of artificial turf , but there's a difference between
grass and mud ..Heck some people like it like it was today ...
Either way you look at it , both teams played on the same turf
today and will Thursday night ...

Absolutely. Toledo practiced on grass all week, and as I said, footing didn't seem to be nearly as big a factor as you might expect. Toledo clicked pretty well in the first half, BG took the 2nd half...in impressive fashion. They earned their bragging rights. And now I have to email my congratulations to my BG alumn sister for the 2nd time in two trips to the Doyt. 03-banghead
FWIW, no precipitation is forecasted through next Thursday (unless things change, which they almost always seem to do). This may help "repair" those conditions a bit.

I thought BG had just as much trouble on that crap they call a field. Josh Harris slipped at least a couple of times. Both teams run a spread offense and that type of field hampers the timing.

There are a lot of artificial surfaces these days that look and feel like grass and are a lot more forgiving than the old traditional artificial turf. Field Turf and NeXturf are two examples and BG should consider them. Don't forget that in this area of the country you have to expect rain and/or snow from November on every year.

Your right Rocket , the grass starts off good at the beginning of
the year , but as Fall & Winter approach it just don't cut it..
When will the Motor City Bowl bid be announced? BG will lock it up with 10 wins and a top 25 ranking.

Very impressed by the performances of the coaching staffs of both Toledo and BG. Creative play calling throughout the game made it fun to watch.

BG has a great shot at winning the MACC. Homefield advantage on a Thursday night. Just played Miami a month ago for ultimate preparation. If BG can shut down Big Ben, the redhawks will be sliding in the mud.
42 degrees and rain is predicted for Thursday.

I respectfully disagree.

Football is meant to be played in the elements and on grass. Period.

Mud. Water. Snow. Ice. Gimme all of that stuff. THAT, my friend, is football. Next think you know, you're going to call for Green Bay to have a dome. Blech.
I don't think I've ever seen a coach call timeouts so his team could clean their cleats. I hope BG never gets turf, playing on grass is real football. Football is a game where your uniform needs to be dirty at the end of the game. I hate turf but we have no other option at Marshall because the field sits below ground level and it wouldn't drain properly.
There IS a difference between grass and MUD. BG's field had HOLES in it---reminded me of the old Fairfield Stadium. BG played tough, but man do they need to upgrade from the high-school type facilities if they're going to get any serious respect.
Give up grass for fake stuff? Have we become THAT feminized as a culture? What's next, awarding a bonus point if your team's socks and jersey's match? This is November, this is the midwest, this is football. Embrace the mud for it is purity...
and its not like it rained last Monday and BG had all week to work on the field. It rained and snowed late last night. Much rather play on real grass instead of a surface you can just squeegie to death two hours before game time to get all the water out.

I agree. Turf is so stupid. You might as well put a turf field in a dome and put walls around the sidelines! *sarcasm* Grass is the original stuff and the best!
Yes, football should be played on grass. But is it so wrong to pay someone to cover up the grass with a decent tarp? 03-wink

Oh, your highness!! Maybe you'd like a scoreboard that works or one that at least show timeouts available. Maybe your lordship would like a sound system of a greater quality than the average Wendy's.

Well, you ain't getting them at BG, Prince Charles...

Once again, KK, you demonstrate what an astute mind for all things football you have. Ken Hoffman and his staff were at the game, yet made no invitation afterwards, as they have done in the past. Rumor also has it that NIU has offered to guarantee ticket sales. MCB officials are also rumored to be less than thrilled about a possible BG/Northwestern match-up, and truthfully, who can blame them? It is a horrible bill from their perspective.

10-1 and being ranked in the Top 25 didn't get Toledo a bowl, it merely cost them their ranking because the MAC let them sit home. Ask Miami fans what it got them. All indications point to the fact that Bowling Green needs to beat Miami on Thursday to go bowling. Otherwise, they will be hosed...and Chryst is very likely to let it happen, and if the past is any idication, we'll all be helping to foot the bill.
It's not Chryst's job to to do what is "fair" for BG, but what is best for the whole league--and in major college football today that is to put out the most attractive ratings matchup possible to help the bowl sponsors make some money. At least give the bowl sponsors who they prefer, if the have a choice. Sorry to BG fans, but NIU-NU is a more appealing game. All the "but our record...and we beat them...and our ranking..." stuff is MEANINGLESS! This is the money football bed everyone wants to lie in, and this is what you get when you do: competitively unfair decisions.
On the other hand, I think the MAC is working overtime to try to land a third bowl in the mess that is this year in the BCS.
Or we could get completely screwed: BG wins, plays NU in a dog of an MCB and Miami gets Memphis in the GMAC.
In terms of national profile, the league needs Miami to win the MACC and hope we can get TCU in Mobile. Any other CUSA team makes for a weak matchup.
(And as someone somewhere else said--too bad Marshall was not in CUSA this year. This year's team would have won the conference.)
