Genyk was a finalist for the BG job in 2000. What happened to Banaszak?
Maybe this guy is a true gem...but his credntials hardly leap from the page.

The posters on this board had me believing in Banaszak, sorry he didn't get the job. The fact that he wasn't mentioned in the article suggests that there were some politics involved. Not a good thing.
Great, another assistant from a staff that thinks they're all-knowing. Good luck with that, Eagles.
I just got back from the press conference announcing Genyk as head coach.

Yes, there are a lot of disappointed folks out there who still believe, like myself, that Banaszak was the choice for the job. What is really troubling is that since Genyk was our 3rd choice for the job, Dr. Diles is essentially telling the alumni (again) to take a flying leap, he doesn't care what we think.

That being said, Genyk's credentials are a bit questionable. He has been running backs coach at Northwestern, recruiting coordinator and director of football operations. However, no head coaching experience, no coordinator experience. He has been with NW since '92. He is a local guy, from Milan, MI and recruits heavily in this area.

He stated that he intends to run an uptempo, no-huddle offense much as NW employed during their 2000 season. He seems excited to be here, states that he wants to host a MACC game at Rynearson, etc.... In other words he said all of the right things.

This will be a make or break hire for AD Diles. Right now, I am very disappointed in his selction, but will support the new guy and hope for the best.
On first blush from a distance, it did not look like any of the candidates have Urban Meyer qualities. I would like to think that a D1a school could have better candidates.

Well, EMU has been pretty much a coaching graveyard lately, so top candidates are not going to come flocking to our program.
I was surprised to see that Jim Harbaugh interviewed for the job. I think that might have been a very interesting choice for the job.
Damnit! Why didn't EMU consider Lou West for the job! 03-banghead

I can relate! KSU is in a similar position. In Organizational Behavior terms, it is know as the "cesspool syndrome." No one good wants the job, so you can't get any better. So then you still can't make a good hire and only dreck remains...

Same thing goes for recruting as for coaches...
