OXFORD, Ohio -- Miami of Ohio football coach Terry Hoeppner agreed to a five-year contract extension following a season in which the RedHawks won the Mid-American Conference for the first time since 1986.

The extension runs through the 2009 season.

No. 14 Miami (12-1) is headed to the GMAC Bowl on Dec. 18. It has won 12 straight since a season-opening loss to No. 13 Iowa.

In the conference title game Thursday night, standout quarterback Ben Roethlisberger led the way as Miami pounded Bowling Green 49-27. Roethlisberger set a title game record with 440 passing yards.

The RedHawks scored the most points in MAC history -- 553 -- and posted their first undefeated conference season since 1977.

After spending 13 years as a Miami assistant coach, Hoeppner was named the RedHawks' 31st coach in January of 1999. He succeeded Randy Walker, the school's winningest coach, who left for Northwestern.

Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.

Good news for Miami.Although I would be more worried about losing the young offense cord.He has done a hell of a job there also.
