The Sporting News selected Auburn as their preseason national champ. It might not be a curse, as much as sheer ignorance. :D
Most polls has Auburn in the top 5, many in top 3. So picking Auburn #1 was not such a reach.....and it shows you that the eggspurts don't really know how to access teams when conducting their polls.
I really hope KSU and Akron can both "break out" next season. The MAC needs a strong football presense in NE Ohio. Plus I am a fan of both institutions, since they have collectively educated both of my parents, all of my aunts and uncles, and one of my grandparents.
