Yeah... we ain't playing today... BUT got the next best thing... on ESPN classic... as i am here sober at the folks place in Arizona... they were playing the 1995 Las Vegas bowl, where Toledo became the first team in NCAA play to win in overtime... and we went undefeated... 04-rock 04-bow 04-rock
I watched that game. they reminded me of this year's team. efficient QB with a decent arm and moves. recievers that can catch, but not really burner speed. excellent o-line and TE play. better defense though. and i think that is the only step we need to get to that next level. a consistant defense. well that and wausean tait xD
Bandman.. i was waiting until you were going to bring up Wasean... he should have made it in the NFL, i think he was talented enough.. it is too bad he had to get hurt... he had all the moves...
I just found this board a week ago and this is my first post. I also was a big Wasean Tait fan - I look for who's wearing #24 every year. I can't wait for next year - we're looking good! Has there been anymore info on UConn backing out? Even at 9-3 I think they were weak, but it would be better to play them then a 1-AA team - which will probably be the only option at this point if they back out.

Welcome, Dino!

I agree, next year looks very bright for Rocket fans...and the year after even more so. I haven't heard anymore about UConn. It sure would be nice if we could sign a couple of excellent 2:1 with some name programs and a few 1:1 with some other "mid-majors", but I think our success is going to make that more difficult.
I have not heard anything new about UCONN, but I am pretty sure the deal is long gone. The Big East has already said they will begin play in fall of 2004 and they had too many OOC games scheduled.

Welcome aboard dino1_UT93.

As for Wasean Tait, if he wouldn't have torn up his knee in '96 he would have been a very good player in the NFL. That QB from '95 was a pretty good one too. That was Ryan Huzjak. I went to school at UT at the same time and had him in a couple of classes.......he was a nice guy and good football player. It was nice getting to watch the '95 Vegas Bowl again. The day after Christmas they also had the 2001 Motor City Bowl on. From Wasean Tait to Chester Taylor......it was nice watching both of those games on ESPN Classic!
I remember being at the Indiana game in 96 when he got hurt. It was an option play to the left side the Huzjak tossed a bit off the mark. As Wasean caught it he got hit.....very ugly. He came back in 98....but he just wasn't the same. He definitely had NFL potential....he made everyone miss tackles.

Toledo needs two things to make it to the next level next year.
1. Strong Defensive line play
2. Dominant Running back play (a RB that gets 100 yds per game, somebody we can lean on to preserve the lead).

I agree with number 1. I would like to see Toledo grab a couple of heavyweights to play on the Dline. I would also like to see maybe one or two of the defensive ends move back to the inside linebacker spot. It always seems like that just about every "major" college football team has a middle linebacker pushing 240 to 250. The middle linebackers that Toledo has now are very fast an capable, I just think that sometimes they take too much of a pounding from some of the runningbacks that UT faced with comperable size and build.

As for number 2 I think that Toledo is just fine in that department, Tree Dawson just seems to get bigger and bigger each year.
Ya know, it should be all that difficult to find some teams out there who would be willing to play us... somehow the other MAC schools like Miami and WMU seems to get some good match ups... hmmmm.... they should have kept obrien...

they should try to score duke, wake forrest... the pac 10... i wonder if they even try to get teams like usc or ucla on the schedule... hmmmmm
