How were they awarded?

Anyone know?

I've found this article in the Marshall University student newspaper, which suggests several universities sought to host:

<a href='http://64.233.167.104/search?q=cache:kQUoHJFccqEJ:www.marshall.edu/parthenon/archives/19961025/sports2.html+ippoliti+mac+championship+game+marshall&hl=en' target='_blank'>http://64.233.167.104/search?q=cache:kQUoH...+marshall&hl=en</a>
I don't have any facts or anything, but I don't believe Toledo submitted any proposal.
I may be wrong , but one reason Marshall hosted was due to their
experience hosting 1-AA playoff & Championship games ...
You are correct SA, Marshall was the only school with the experience of putting on a nationally televised, locally supported championship game, as well as having the best stadium in the conference.

Im prety sure it was a 3 or 4 year deal. Then Marshall added another year after the orginial contract.

I would beg to differ about MU having the best stadium in the conference, and I have been to them all except Buffalo.
But at the time MU Stadium was the best stadium for purposes of tv broadcast in terms of the best technology integrated into the stadium.

Actually, Marshall fans hated his guts. Remember that comment he made about those Marshall fans revin' up the moonshine wagon or something like that?

They may have hated him, but he obviously had a lot of love for them.

Gotta disagree with that last comment. While you do have a very nice stadium, I remember Sporting News ranking the MAC stadiums a few years back and Toledo's was #1 with Marshall's #2. I think WMU's stadium might have been #3.

Yeah, wasn't Ippoliti from WV?

He went out of his way to subsidize Marshall. He must have felt he was doing his part for folks "back home".

Now everybody dislikes him.
The original deal Ippolitti proposed to members around the conference was to let Marshall host the game for its first year, part due to their experience hosting playoff games and partially as a "housewarming" gift to one of our new members. Although a few other cities bid, a few others held back and decided to prepare a bid for the following year.

Then, behind the backs of everyone, Ippolitti signed a three-year deal. ADs around the league were furious.

It was in the Sporting News a year or two ago. Someone may still have the link?

Not sure why you are so confused with that.
Yup, I remember the ratings...........the writer of that story put the Glass Bowl #1 in the MAC...............to be honest, I can't remember for certain the rest of the rankings, though. As I recall, WMU was 2nd, with Marshall 3rd, but I could be wrong.

I think these are the same exact rankings in msnbc.com......you are right that Waldo Stadium was #2 and Marshall Stadium #3. Toledo, of course was #1.

I just dont see why it would be ranked number i.

I was going to say Buffalo. :D
What kind of poll what that?

Who was doing this poll? I never saw it, and all I can see are these rankings, but it has no background that I can find to read about it.
