I guess part of the earlier rumors is true.....Astin Martin has dropped out of school and will transfer, probably to a lower division school near his hometown. Apparently he wants more playing time and he wants to be very close to him due to some illness in the family.

This will hurt a little, but he still have a lot of depth. It is time for Quinton Broussard to step up and show why we recruited him!

The new look at RB:

JR Trinity Dawson
JR Quinton Broussard
SO Jeremy Wright ( I really like this kid and think he can add depth to the position)
FR Scooter McDougle
FR Jalen Parmele
FR Richard Davis
I'm sorry that he is leaving. He will be missed.

Good luck to Astin and his family.

Martin was a leader on the field and on the sidelines. I think that's what will be missed more than anything. He was too small to get the kind of playing time he'd like with the depth we have. He'll be an amazing RB at a lower level. I hope he has great success.

On the upside, even with the departure of the man with the coolest name in the MAC, Toledo still blows away the competition in terms of RB's with cool names.... 03-lol
I think Astin was a very important running back in the lineup. But, I sensed a bit of a let-down from his Fr. season. Don't know if he was dinged, preoccupied, or disillusioned. In any case, in '03 he didn't make his case for the #1 spot at Toledo. I think UT will be fine at RB, however. I'm not sure what Lance Johnson's status is, or what the coaches have in mind for him. But, FWIW, he was a 1st Team All State RB as a junior the same year that Astin was 1st Team as a senior.

This development should make for some very interesting develoments this Spring. I think the situation at WR will be interesting, as well. True, we have a couple great ones already. But, there are a few others who seem to have great potential on paper and will be ready to prove it on the field. Add another potent WR to the lineup, not to mention the TE's, and we could have the most lethal Rocket offense ever!
I want to see that David Washington from Texas play this Spring!

No doubt! He's what...7'3 and 490 pounds? Runs a 3.7 40, too! :D

Seriously, I can't wait to see what the kid can do, either.
David Washington weighs in at 6'5 215. I've stood behind that kid on teh sidelines, and he is as big as he sounds. I can't remember the last tiem I hjave anticipated watching two recruits play as I have him and McDougal.

As for Astin Martin, he is a loss but not a big one. Trinity Dawson is a player. He runs, he blocks, and he catches. he is a lock at #1. He may turn into the best back in the MAC by his senior season. With that talent we have, and have comming in, I think #2 is completely interchangable. Lance Johnson will play DB.
