I think they will go 5-5 with a good possiblity of going 6-4.
So is one of EMU's games going to get cancelled??? 03-lol
Eastern Ill is D1-AA. :withstupid:

It still counts in the record column and you are allowed to use 1 I-AA win per 3 years for bowl elgibility so you can count it there too.

I can see one reason why they don't want to count a game against a I-AA opponent.

(Hint-See last year's results!)
And how many bowl teams have done that? Few I bet if any. You are not going to be a top 25 or a top 50 team with a win against a D1-AA team. :(
Honestly, Jeff Genyk is a much better coach with more experience than Woodruff. I didn't understand the reason why Diles hired Woodruff in the first place. I have seen Genyk do extremely well with Northwestern's recruiting for the past few years. I know that Genyk and his new crew will turn the sinking ship around for EMU football. Look for Genyk's team to improve slightly at 5-7 or 6-6. I don't see them winning games yet unless the Eagles are fast learners to Genyk's new RUN-N-SHOOT and the NO HUDDLE system similar to Randy Walker's schemes with the Wildcats. We'll see.....I am predicting EMU to win games against teams like Buffalo, E. Illinois (of course), Idaho, Kent State, Central Michigan, and pull an upsetting win over Northern Illinois.
Sporting News has EMU ranked at 110 which is a little better than last year. It will come down to the Offense being able to keep the defense off the field. They need to run and use up the clock. They need to keep the score down and run, run, run! They rate Jeff as a D asa selection for the coaching position. I hope he is able to prove them wrong. 04-rock
04-rock I hope EMU football will make a turnaround soon. The rankings don't mean anything to me since we still scheduled a Division I-AA team to play at Rynearson. Too bad that EMU cannot change the game vs. E. Illinois to host a decent Division I-A opponent.

 Either way, I am happy with the changes. EMU was one of the 14 NCAA Division I-A teams to change their coaches. Most interesting part is that the Eagles will be playing 3 teams that also had coaching changes (Idaho, CMU, Kent State). We'll see overall which changes were the better ones..... :ownd:
Any latest news about the CMU-EMU football game at Ford Field in November? The news is out that Wayne State and Hillsdale will be able to sell at least 200 tickets on both sides to watch the first game of the doubleheader.

Brian Kelly's doing the same promotion similar to his years coaching at Grand Valley State by asking all Chips fans to attend the game in Detroit. Kelly was able to promote the GVSU-Ferris State game for the past few years and was able to sellout all games at Grand Valley for this matchup. If that happens, CMU may be bringing over at least 600-1000 of their fans and alums to the games. I am hoping for at least 1,200 people from them along with at least 2,000 + from all Eagles fans.

We'll see......
I just got my "Athlon Sports College Football Mag it has Eastern ranked 112th in the country. The only forsure win they have us winning is the Eastern Illinios game, they have the Buffalo, Idaho, Ball State, Central, and Kent St games as tossups. A slim possiblity of going 6-5. I will take that. 04-rock

Anything less than 12,500 spells failure. 20;000 plus will be a success. It's a little early, but your figures are not encouraging. A lot is riding on this game, and all promotional ideas should be brought out and examined. Everyone should be involved, including CMU.
Tomznj, there are some updated figures to have at least 8,000 CMU tickets to be selling well. As for EMU, I am not sure of the figures, but I know that myself and six others are going so it would be close to 1800 people going for now (estimated numbers from a good source).

Superfan, I bought the latest issue of Phil Steele's 2004 College Football Preview. It has EMU ranked 5th out of 7th in the MAC West and it highly believes that EMU will have seven winnable games since Buffalo and Kent State are pulled from the MAC East for this schedule.
Other notable factors for EMU:

Power ratings (+/-) for EMU -> 114.57 (most are near 150.00)
Recruiting ratings for EMU -> 7th in the MAC overall (not bad)
2003 Toughest Schedule -> EMU ranked #110 toughest (awkward)
Opponent's Winning Percentage -> EMU 45.9% (very poor)

EMU is ranked #114 out of #119 NCAA teams in this book in which UL-Monroe from the Sun Belt Conference is ranked higher. That's not a good sign to start off with. Though if EMU beats Buffalo, Kent State, and Idaho, their rankings will move up over their current positions.
:snore:
I see Eastern being slightly better than last year. I plan on attending the doubleheader in Detroit with CMU and Wayne/Hillsdale. Even though I live in Atlanta, I travel to 12 different college football games each year. It is a hobby with me. This is my schedule for 2004:

Aug 28: Southern Cal vs Virginia Tech, Landover, Md
September 4: Miami at Michigan
Sept 11: Southern Miss at Nebraska
Sept 18: Clemson at Texas A&M
Sept 25: Penn State at Wisconsin
Oct 2: Arkansas at Florida
Oct 9: Wisconsin at Ohio St
Oct 16: Wisconsin at Purdue
Oct 23: Florida at Miss St
Oct 30: Delaware at Navy
Nov 6: EMC/CMU, Wayne/Hillsdale, Detroit
Nov 13: Nebraska at Oklahoma

I graduated from Eastern a long time ago, then went to grad school at Michigan. Living in Atlanta now for over 38 years and also a big Florida Gator Fan. I thought about going to the Eastern - Florida game, but decided against watching a massacre. But, good luck to the Eagles this year.

03-lol Some positive vibes to have for EMU fans.......

- Matt and Ken Bohnet fighting for the #1 starting position as QB

- Return of Anthony Sherrill who finished #2 in the MAC with 1,531 rushing yards and voted First Team MAC

- Return of PK Andrew Wellock who hit 14 of 17 FG attempts and his longest was 48 yds.

- EMU DC will have a new coordinator (Jay Peterson) in which they will implement the 4-3 scheme instead of the typical 3-4 scheme which was used during Woodruff's years. Peterson was with Miami (OH) in the 90s.

- EMU OC will have a new coordinator (Howard Feggins) in which they will implement the no-huddle, run-n-shoot offense similar to Northwestern's. Feggins was with Miami (OH) in the 90s.

- EMU HC Jeff Genyk was very successful at coaching RBs at Northwestern, taking in stride with 1,000 rushers like Darnell Autry, Damien Anderson, and Jason Wright. Genyk's leadership has been noted to be good with teaching the 21st century student-athletes.

We'll see by this Fall if these are worth noting......
OK Eastern Michigan fans. We need a list of good spots to "wet the whistle". Thanks, I'm looking forward to it.
There are several in Ypsilanti Depot Town, Cady's, Side Tracks, Aubree' Saloon. There is also Tower Inn and Smoke House Blue's and TC Speak Easy. I don't go to bars much. But Aubree's and Side Track is abot the best they right accross the street from each other. Smoke House is not bad either has a sothern flavor to it. :D
Many thanks, I'm more of a Diet Coke man myself, really. Many others in the group "favor" something a wee bit stronger. Again, many thanks, we look forward to it.

Smokehouse Blues is my personal favorite. Great BBQ and brews joint with great blues music playing in the background. But also be sure to check out the Depot Town area. 04-drinky
