I've got no dog in the fight today, but the games are all interesting in their own ways.

2:00 PM
Ohio = 63
NIU = 49

7:06 left.

What a difference Sonny Troutman makes for this OU squad. He'd be frosh of the year frontrunner, if not for missing so many games with a high ankle sprain.

If OU holds on, we are back up to 2-3 in the MAC, still with a chance to make some noise...
The 'Cats opened up a can of whoop @$$ on the Huskies in the second half (outscoring them 44-26) and cruise to an easy 80-59 win.

5 Bobcats in double figures, led by Stephens' 17 and Harris' 16.

This is 3 good performances in a row by the 'Cats. Believe it or not, Ohio could be in 7th place by night's end. Tough schedule ahead, though: @Akron, @Marshall, @WMU. If we can steal one on the road, we're still in the thick of the chase for a home game in the tournament. About all we can hope for at this point...

Congrats on the win. We are absolutely awful and may well end up in the bottom 3 at the end of the year(if not the worst). Now on to BSU for another blowout loss. 03-banghead Is it football season yet?

Oh come on. I was at the game. The officials did NOTHING to help EMU in this one including calling that intentional foul against EMU once the score was narrowed to 64-60 with about two minutes left. It's always great to see the officials grandstand and decide the game on their own instead of letting the kids decide things on the court.

Sounds like you were listening to your homer broadcasters a little too much. 05-nono

WMU has a solid team...now if only EMU could put 40 minutes of basketball together. 03-banghead
Not hardly Dave.

The officials were horrible for both teams.

It was a hard fought game by two tough teams.

By the way, nice of the EMU students to be shouting and cussing during the national anthem.
Gotta love in-state rivalries, eh? 04-rock

BTW...it was only one or two loudmouths during the anthem, unfortunately, they happened to be sitting right by us.

Great turnout tonight by students of both squads. Should be a great rematch in two weeks. 04-rock

You coming over?
So it was "only one or two loudmouths" screaming "Western sucks" during a pregnant pause in the middle of the National Anthem, eh, HuronDave? Well, what the heck, if it was only one or two....

There are certain lines that sports fans just don't cross. Yet the EMU fans managed to cross many of them tonight. Defiling the National Anthem was just the first. The EMU founding fathers must be rolling over in their graves.

Give me a break already. When you have students, sh!t happens. C'mon already. :chair: It was not that big of a deal. For a change we actually had a decent crowd with some enthusiasm and some were a bit boisterous. I didn't know that college basketball games were such solemn events. Besides, yelling "Broncos Suck" is no big deal and FYI one of the ushers scolded the folks for that...okay? You can't prevent some loudmouth(s) from yelling but you can address when it happens and that was done. Sheesh.

Ever been to a Red Wings game genius? Listen to all of the yelling that goes on during the middle of the anthem(s) there. Just gotta have something to ***** about right? I am sure students at WMU have always been completely respectful of everyone and everything. Total angels I am sure.

What were the "many other lines" that were crossed? Were you there? I saw good fun and bantering between BOTH student sections. Sorry if yelling "bullsh!t" also offends you. If it does then you should avoid any major sporting events.

Cripes, we are damned if we do and damned if we don't. We don't have enough people show up and folks want to kick us of the MAC, we have a ncie crowd and we offend Kalamazoo sensibilities.

I have no side to weigh in on regarding our Michicgan spat, but I will observe that sensitive Broncos fans might want to stay away from the MAC Center Wednesday. Unfortunetly, we always have a few goof balls among the Kent fans, and I'm sure they will be there along with a full house of local fans.
As Andy Hipsher can attest, it is not a hospitable crowd.

WMU is playing suberb ball. I hope it's a real battle on Wednesday.
As a Veteran of this country I take it quite personally.

When you move around while the Nation Anthem is played it's disrespect. While you shout "Western Sucks" in the middle of the National Anthem it's spitting on me, all Veterans, current soldiers and all of those who have fought and died for this country. The National Anthem is the time of the game when we are on the same team.

Then dropping all of those F Bombs that were heard over the radio is classless and it forced parents with children that were listening to the game to have to shut the radio off. Basketball is a family sport and F Bombs are not needed. WMU had the same problem at the hockey arena back in 1998. The althetic staff has since gotten control of it and if my kids were not in Montana now I would take them to a game or two at Lawson Arena, but at that time I vowed never to bring them to a hockey game until the students cleaned up their mouths at events that are family events.

Just because they are students and away from home for the first time does not give them the right to drop F Bombs, make racial and sexual slurs to the "student-athletes" on the playing surface. I have it on good authority that their were a lot of EMU alumni who found this disrespectful and have vowed never to go to another EMU basketball game. You can't sit there and defend this behavior with the reasoning with they are students.

There are other ways to be able to ride the opponents and what happened yesterday was not the right way.
Wow, I am a bit flabbergasted at this point.

First, you won't find a more dyed in the wool patriot than yours truly but I still can't get worked up over some buffoon yelling something during the anthem.

Second, I have not spoken to a single EMU alum that was so appalled at this alleged misbehavior that they vowed never to go back again. If someone was saying this, they probably don't go to many games anyway...seems like most EMU folks stay away as it is, so no great loss.

Third, I am not excusing the behavior, just let's put it into perspective. There were a few "F Bombs" coming from the Broncos student section as well. Do I condone it? No. It's crass and not symbolic of what collegiate athletics should represent but it is an unfortunate symptom of the current state of our society. Let's not pile on EMU for this.

Also, for the record, I heard nothing that was racial or sexually offensive. What you did not see or hear on the radio was the great interplay during timeouts between EMU and WMU students. You did not see the spirited tug of war at center court (won by EMU). It was a fun evening, let's not overstate a couple of really minor instances and blow it up into something melodramatic.

I am sure that the WMU students will all be on their best behavior on the 31st and would never get out of control or say anything offensive.

That being said, it was a pretty impressive performance by WMU last night and I hope we can give return the favor in Kalamazoo.
